Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

Back in the day we lost Chris Redman from Louisville. I believe Tepper let go of Landry as OC. He had a very good career at Louisville.
Not like we ever had to face Redman....

There are plenty of schools with near Auburn money without as many Auburn issues....

I expected this article to be a "he's got an Alabama offer so that door is closed" but it's got a good chunk of Illinois mentions in there.

Possible dumb, game theory take.....

Auburn has been spending big, big NIL bucks in the prep market, and will be spending the same in the upcoming transfer portal. Auburn is also struggling, to the point of making a bowl is trending to unlikely. They are still going to bring in a great class but it's now becoming more expensive to get those players to sign. There's a tax for being a bad program.

The game theory is Alabama can start offering more Auburn commits to trigger a higher tax for Auburn to keep them. I don't know if Auburn is actually interested in Starr, but there's value in making Auburn concerned that Bama is sniffing around. At worst? Auburn is creating more pressure on Hugh because donors are putting a lot on their credit card to max out their roster in '25 and '26. At best? Auburn will have to let some preps go or not pursue certain transfers, requiring them to leave roster holes.

This is old recruiting news but I just saw Jay cutler giving an interview that he had committed to illinois, but they wanted him to sit for a semester. Good call
They took his commitment on the condition that he was a lower priority commitment. Turner took some kid out of CA who never saw the field here and downgraded Cutler's offer to grayshirt.

Cutler winding up with Turner as his OC on the Bears was a sad twist of fate for him.

No word on what happened to the HC that paired them together despite that negative history. Certainly wouldn't be recommended by Turner for his old job.

Yes, Landry was let go and then Redman decommitted and went to UL. That is one of those historic 'what if' moments. Quite conceivable that the next 25 years of UI football looks much different if we had Redman at QB for 3-4 years

A player to keep an eye on is 2027 Montini qb Israel Abrams. Big kid athletic kid with a cannon. He just led Montini to a victory over Trae Taylor and Carmel. Iowa state has offered and they have been recruiting him hard.

I remember seeing Israel playing 12u football for the Elgin Bears and coming away very impressed.

Here’s a kid to keep an eye on: Marion Persich at LaSalle-Peru. Freshman QB starting on the varsity. Good runner, erratic as a thrower but he’ll get better. Apparently was already offer by Temple. I watched the game vs Ottawa last night. He missed three open guys for TDs but made some great throws into coverage for completions.

Presch is a stud. He also plays for meanstreets. I think basketball is in main sport. That’s what happened to Davion Thompson.

I go to Montini games often as i have family on cheer and on the frosh team. He recently just took over the starting job there and looked legit to me.

He transferred to Montini this year from St Viator. 2027 is a very good year for instate qb. Abram’s, Purcell and Taylor all have P4 offers. Plus Ellington and Reece Shanklin will get P4 offers
