Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

Great win tonight. But I have a question about recruiting. I was on ESPN reading what little has been written about us when I saw Eugene Wilson III of Florida had knee surgery. Why didn't we recruit him? His dad is former Illini safety Eugene Wilson. Why is it so hard for us to recruit legacy kids? It seems every other team can get them except us. What did all of the previous staffs do to Alumni to alienate them and their families? And what is Bret failing to do to make this better?

We have to replace Coleman, Briggs, Edward’s, Ezekiel Holmes and possibly jacas

I would imagine we hit the portal hard for dline
I know - it’s grim. We have some young talent now getting snaps, but I am in agreement that we’ll need to bring in some older transfers to augment the room. I’d still like to parlay our early season production from those veterans to get a few 3-4 star high school guys.

Illini did recruit him and offered him. But he's from the Tampa area and was offered by many of the big boys, too....he was ranked 109 in the country so a lot of schools offered him...'Bama, Georgia, PSU, Oregon, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, A&M, etc. It all goes back to winning...if the Illini can string together some solid years, make (and win) some bowls, then they can compete for more 4 stars and the occasional 5 star. Granted, Florida hasn't had a lot of success in recent years, but relatively speaking to Illinois, I figure they are much more attractive to a Florida kid. Plus, I think there are plenty of examples of sons that didn't follow the same path to college that their Dads did...being a legacy doesn't guarantee anything, especially in the current NCAA world.

Maybe if Florida has a coaching change we would have a shot with him. Now we can sell our develop of receivers
