Yes the limit is 105.
Correct but total roster goes from 120 to 105. The non-scholarship Illini (or rather, the roster has to be reduced by 15 players) either will get a scholarship next year or they are off the team. <--- Assuming Illinois offers a full 105 (100% funded) scholarships - which they will.

All Div.1 schools in every sport for every athlete can offer 100% scholarships, or partial scholarships or no scholarships, but can't exceed the roster limit.

probably is under rated a little

if he had committed to ND, he would be an immediate 4*
joking aside , he has size and if staff can determine he has heart and brains , grab him .

schollie roster is now 105 correct ?

Agreed. Would love to see him and JC in drills together, my bet is it’s closer than people think.

Development isn’t linear, some kids are late bloomers. The staff has really excelled at evaluating senior film. Also kids like this who are from the state are more likely to be willing to wait 4-5 years to play. Gouin left after 1 season. How many Florida kids have sat and accepted a development role. If they don’t play right away they are usually moving on

Interesting thought. Maybe this offseason I’ll have some time to explore this potential interaction.

I’m fine with this add. Badly needed a HS tight end. I’m fine with a developmental add like this, and I’m all for 3-5 of these late bloomers every year because it seems like a +EV for Illinois. I’m guessing they add at least one more TE that’s a HS prospect or a multi/year transfer. Going to need one of the current freshman to take a big leap this coming spring.

Jake Furtney was a steal

I am really excited about these in-state pickups that the staff is getting. If a lot of these kids stick and do so for a few years, this creates a trickle down effect that will only benefit the Illini. These kids have families and friends, and the High Schools and surrounding areas all have fans that will all follow the Illini along with these commits. This is the kind of stuff that pays immediate dividends as well as 5-10-15-plus years down the road. Can you imagine how many texts, calls, messages this kid got after announcing his commitment to the UI???? Multiply that by however many people you think that may be?!?!? This is good stuff for the program!!! We have some in-state kids on this team, today, playing vital roles. Illinois is a pretty fertile recruiting ground, football and basketball. It's all FREE ADVERTISING when one of these kids break out! I wonder if there is a way to determine the percentage of Illinois HS preps that have been on the team in the past 10-15 years. I'd be curious to see if there is a trend. I know BB seems to be doing well in that regard. While I'm on that subject, is there a site that lists NFL players by the state they attended High School? I would guess Illinois has been a consistent producer of talent over the years. I wonder what that graph would look like superimposed over a graph of in-state kids we've signed over the same period?

tl/dr: I'm so happy to see what appears to be a significant increase in the number of Illinois kids being recruited/signed by the Illini in recent years!

Also, anyone who's not excited about signing this in-state 3 star TE, you've got to remember, Bielema/Wisconsin did very very well recruiting primarily 3-star recruits.
