The 247Sports Composite listed Purdy as the No. 192 player nationally and No. 7 dual-thread quarterback, ahead of talented players like Florida's Anthony Richardson, Georgia Tech's Jeff Sims and now-Orlando Magic point guard Jalen Suggs.
Just going from memory....juice was the 6th ranked dual threat qb and Nate was approximately 6-8th in their respective years....could be karma.
I like Miller and Harrison Bailey from Tennessee. Either one would fix the QB problem.

Lots of good QBs in the portal not counting in the JC ranks. We will get a good QB for next year

I will be shocked if (1) our HC/OC wants a dual threat QB after the position changes and recruiting priorities in the 2022 class or (2) a good dual threat QB would be willing to commit to the program because of the aforementioned reasons and offensive approach throughout the 2021 season.

Maybe this is what you are meaning: Bielema and staff absolutely needs some offensive line replacements. Guessing they bring in two guys who are expected to at least compete for a starting job. And getting upgrades is a task for any position at all times. That said, the offensive line was a strength for the 2021 team. If they can replicate their performance in 2022 with a new cast, that would be great.
Pearl is probably a lock to start at one of the tackle spots. Kreutz + Barlev likely to get a chance to win a starting job in the interior. Slaughter was likely to get playing time this year if he didn't go down late in camp. Lots of others that could step up and compete. Lots of options if you bring in two guys: one interior and one tackle? one sure-fire starter and one longer-term piece? grab one guy right away and see how the roster progresses in the spring before pulling a trigger on a second? maybe you feel great about the interior options and you grab two potential tackles instead?
I agree with you. What I don’t understand is how we want such a commitment to the run game but don’t value a qb who can also run. Even just finding a pocket passer who happens to be fast by accident makes more sense. It’s the one piece of what we do that doesn’t seem complimentary to me. But again, I don’t know football like that so I assume I’m missing something.
The offensive line was “supposed” to be a strength, I don’t think that proved true, except for a few drives so far this season. That, apparently, prompted Bielema to comment that no offensive lineman on the roster were worthy of first or second string on the Oline. Maybe that was just a motivational move, I know he took a bit of a beating for saying it. I also like some of the kids on the current roster, and a few that are in the 2022 recruiting class. I’d say , minimum 3 transfer Olinemen that can come in with a chance to start, or back up immediately. The 2023 Illinois HS class is chock full of highly ranked Olinemen also… need to score there in the next class. All the top teams in the BIG have excellent Olines… it’s a must to be consistently competitive.
I don't think we are against QBs that can run, but I also think we prefer QBs that can pass first and QBs that are labeled dual threat are either too good to come to Illinois when there are better teams and offenses to show case their ability or actually just runners which don't really help us as we need a QB that can help empty the box for us.
Bielema actively recruited and wanted Russel Wilson at Wisconsin. So he isn't against it, but they need to be a strong armed QB that can open up the box for the running game.
I don't think so. It's funny if you look at the area Riley has been recruiting hardest as of late it is SoCal....I would think this has been in the works for a decent amount of time. Riley was adamant about not going to the SEC when all that was going down.
Did notice on 24/7 that OU had 3 de-commitments dated yesterday and today — all D players though none from SoCal.
Probably because his dc is going with him to usc. I believe bedenbaugh is going with riley too and hes been at ou forever. So I would assume riley wasn’t alone for being against the move to the sec.

Watch out for the name of Simi Moala OT Utah. 6-7 312. He is a beast on the OL. He has multiple years left. Kayden Lyles from Wisky will be a nice fit on the interior. He is 6-3 323. We grab these two or players similar, we are in good shape. Brown and McCray will love to run behind these players

Regarding coach and the “comment” - as discussed on here at the time, he was noting the lack of position players from those classes currently still on the team, not criticizing the players on the team now. Many media outlets, **cough Chicago cough** ignored the context and ran with an uninformed headline.
I would like one Harrison Bailey please. He likely has options at more proven programs, but I think he'd fit the mold of what Petersen and Bret want at the position. And when Peters played competent football, the offense showed it could move down the field.

You mean the fans? I don't think the coaching staff has. BB praised him as the scout team QB and he was behind Ryan Johnson in the depth chart, so ahead of the more experienced Matt Robinson. Even if he somehow earns the starting job as a RS freshman, as unlikely it may be, the team still needs a competent backup or someone to push for the starting QB job.
