Kid comes from good stock and no doubt values getting a degree from Michigan. There will be alot of competition at linebacker. Illinois is rising and he may eventually find his way back "home". If and when he does, I'll welcome him with open arms. One other comment, how could any Illini alum agree to where Michigan under any circumstances. It would make me puke.

In the picture from the tweet, his parents seem to be wearing non team specific clothes. So maybe they agree with you on that.

If it were me, I’d be sporting the orange and blue all the way…on every official visit to other schools or in every commitment photo, and to every game. I’ll root for my boys, but I won’t root for their teams if they are a rival.

I doubt my kids will ever be Div 1 athletes though. Too bad. 😂

I’m not disappointed with the staff’s recruiting work this year but I’m disappointed with this specific recruitment. Plenty of built-in advantages, there were opportunities to lock this one down earlier. Now he’s headed to an in-conference rival.

Maybe he will want to come back when Harbaugh gets fired next year.*

*Based on my prediction that he will lose to tOSU AGAIN, and then have a crap season next year.

Do we know for sure that if he was offered earlier after that camp, he would have committed (and stayed)? Or is this wishful thinking, like Illinois would always make a 4th and 1 if they would only play to win?

If we got in on him in the summer he most likely would have committed. Now would he have stayed who knows. Who knows if he would have blown up like this either if he committed early.

Rolder was our last chance to break into Illinois HS football’s top ten players. With the built in connections, hurts to lose this one. Hopefully the staff breaks new ground in the next class with top in state talent.

2023 provides some promise:

(1) Top three ranked in-state recruits (via 247 composite) are all offensive linemen, which should be a strength for Bielema. Each of these guys will have lots and lots of offers. Not likely to get them but would be a windfall to get one.
(2) Two of those top-three are East Saint Louis HS prospects. I believe Hawthorne's signing doesn't prohibit signings next year and he should be a strength for the staff for 2023.
(3) Going by 247's ranking, the second-ranked recruit is a TE from Oswego. Another position and geographical area that could be helpful.
(4) Three highly regarded athletes for next year are either being worked hard by the staff already (Feagin and Hill) or in areas which have been friendly to Illinois (Elzy) in the past.

Those points are just brief, feel free to check out the 2023 rankings on your own. I will say that next year's recruiting in-state "map" and positions is the most promising (for UI) class in a while. Let's hope there is a payoff.

Since athletes can play multiple sports, its difficult to understand why he’s not allowed to. Assume he would be a receiver if he was on the team? Wish him luck pursuing his dream and hope it works out with Illinois.

Believe the rules are such that one can play fb and run track, but the scholly must come from/count against fb, and can't be the other way around.
