I saw that Lance/Kansas picked up a transfer LB from Michigan. Love what BB is doing here and super excited to see the team this year, but gotta say I am hoping Leopold gets some traction there. Gonna be interesting
I didn't do any type of extensive research but I compared Clemson vs. Illinois football records from 1960 to 1976 --- during all those years I was watching Dave Diles hosting the “Prudential College Football Scoreboard Show” on ABC. (For the youngsters in the crowd, Diles is often referred to as the Walter Cronkite of college football from the 1960's and 1970's because he was pretty much our single source of live Saturday football scores prior to ESPN).Clemson doesn't belong on this list; they have historically been a strong program (albeit not as strong as they are right now). The others are good benchmarks though; we can probably add a few others such as OK State, Kansas State and Mizzou to the list.
I don't think there is any question Illinois has been the most under-achieving P5 football program over the past couple decades
I certainly don't. We play them in 3 years.I saw that Lance/Kansas picked up a transfer LB from Michigan. Love what BB is doing here and super excited to see the team this year, but gotta say I am hoping Leopold gets some traction there. Gonna be interesting

It better not end in a scoreless tie. It's probably in our best interest that they somewhat perk up. That match-up has some risk of being lampooned by the media.
Don’t worry they’ll be on the upswing when we play themIt's probably in our best interest that they somewhat perk up. That match-up has some risk of being lampooned by the media.
And in those days, Clemson annually played perennial powers like Furman and Wofford.I didn't do any type of extensive research but I compared Clemson vs. Illinois football records from 1960 to 1976 --- during all those years I was watching Dave Diles hosting the “Prudential College Football Scoreboard Show” on ABC. Results below, and yes Clemson was a little better, even though we got to include our Butkus years from the early 1960's. And to my initial point above, the Tigers have gone on to become a nationally-recognized college football power. We haven't...........yet. Counting on BB for that!
Clemson Winning Pct: 45.5%
Illinois Winning Pct: 40.0%
So you're saying that nothing has changed............(Clemson season ticket holder here). And in those days, Clemson annually played perennial powers like Furman and Wofford.
Just my thoughts, like Wisky turned TE's into Tackles, Boyer will play OL. Just a guess though. So you're saying that nothing has changed............(Clemson season ticket holder here).
I believe the expectation for Riley-Ducker is AuburnPercentage Riley-Ducker chooses Illinois?(since we currently have 2 te’s committed) And has there been any word on selah brown?
A lot of this gets down to effort and staff continuity. It takes time and effort to build relationships, but if you stick with it and show you take care of the players on and off the field, within a few years your recruiting will be pretty good. Lovie just flat out didn't get it when it comes to recruiting. I think Beckmann got it but wasn't respected. Zook had too much turnover after his first few years and it when it became obvious he couldn't coach he was done. Bielema and his staff are approaching this the right way and it will pay off. It’s tough to make up lost ground when you’re Illinois. But kudos to the staff for trying. I think next year we start to break through on some higher ranked prospects. Of course a lot of that depends on how we play this year.
Iowa was bad in that time frame as well.Wisconsin and Northwestern were absolute crap for 30 years from the early 60s to mid 90s -- even worse than Illinois has been for the past 25 years.
Wisconsin went 119-196-7, with only seven winning seasons (and two consecutive winless seasons) from 1963-1992.
Northwestern went 76-252-5, with only TWO winning seasons in thirty years, and an historic 34 game losing streak, from 1964-1993.
With the right coach and administration support, Illinois can rise just like those programs did.
The Squakeyes started their turnaround with Hayden in the 80's.I think

There are just too many guys on the football side for it to really make a huge difference in recruiting. Especially when we are not involved with anyone near the top 50-100 where they may get a shot at some as incoming freshman. Unless a local business comes in and offers ~6k per player for the year like Miami, I don't think it will come up too oftenAll the discussion is on the basketball side, but have any NIL reports come out on football and does this hurt our chances with anyone we are recruiting? Our brand is not strong on the football side, but I would think there are still lots of opportunities.
I was wondering the same thing, and with the other 4 schools after him(ariz, wvu, ind, mich st) seems we’d have a shot imo. Hope we land some d line recruits/transfers and some secondary help. Is Ali Wells an option? Haven’t heard much on him at all since last year. JwAny shot at Shawn Miller??
I don’t recall seeing AW on the visit list, but I could have missed it. Shawn Miller making a decision on 7/17 per twitter. With Walters as DC, I’d think that would be pretty attractive but we haven’t seen much on that side yet unfortunately.I was wondering the same thing, and with the other 4 schools after him(ariz, wvu, ind, mich st) seems we’d have a shot imo. Nope, I believe he visited back in 2019(not 100% sure), i was just curious if they were even after him at all or not.I don’t recall seeing AW on the visit list, but I could have missed it.
