AFAIK no one on the current team can guard or get a bucket like TJ Shannon.
Good news is we should be a lot more balanced offensively & better equipped to handle small, quick, scoring guards.
They both shot 100% from 3!
Agreed we need to relax with already claiming next years team is better than last year. I mean I'm all for getting excited but Terrance literally had one of the greatest season any Illinois player has ever had and Marcus domask was ho hum first team all big ten. And we went to an elite 8.
Draft board doesn't mean college production and most of these guys are new to college although not inexperienced. Nobody has this team in the top 10 outside of this board... Which is fine. They underestimated last year's team as well but we would have to be a top 5 team to be better than last... Which is really really hard.
That being said the season can't get here fast enough!
Yup. I need to see if this team can defend worth a lick before getting too excited. The potential & talent is certainly there.
Great post. Pretty sure Brad will not waste a lot of his criticism on offense. The whole key to the success of this team will be who wants to play dog-eared, eat your mother, stop 'em or die defense. Do any of them know how? Do any of them want to do that other than Ty and maybe DGL? The ones that do will likely get a shot at the NBA.
And I am really curious as to what effect Ty's efforts in the gym over the summer will have on his game. Virtually no one spends those hours shooting without and elevation in shooting skill and confidence. Can't wait for him to hit 4 of 5 from 15+ against a stunned opponent who had no idea he was capable or even would shoot that many....as Illini beat a top 20 team by 15....his 15!!!!!!

Obviously they cherry pick the makes, whats your point? Its a practice video but im allowed to get excited. I hadnt seen as many highlights of those two so they stood out.

Was just checking out Torvik's rankings.
Illinois is ranked 21 and is rated as the 2nd most talented and 8th least experience team in the country. Could make for a pretty mercurial season. Hard not to get excited about the potential though.
Check out their kasaparus and humrichous projections... I'm shocked with how low they evaluate them we got up to 21. Also our offense and defensive ratings likely will switch... Just a guess
Yeah, his preseason projections start to get wacky once you drill down to the individual player level. Last year, for example, when Hawkins announced he was coming back we actually fell in his model.
I'm a little higher on us than the ranking services and the media seem to be, but I can't fault anyone for being uncertain about the type of team we'll be.
From what I can tell, this is the lowest percentage of returning minutes we've had since at least 1976, although the 22-23 team is not far behind.
