I may not have phrased it correctly. College players are being paid. What is the definition of being an amateur?
College players get paid for NIL and do not get directly paid to play basketball. It is splitting hairs, but that is why they are still "amateurs" versus someone getting directly paid to play basketball. If you allowed non "amateurs", Lebron would still have 4 years of eligibility to come back to college and collect NIL.

I hear you, and old school me shares the sentiment of many on here. BUT..... that cat is out of the bag and is never going back in. The OLD definition of 'amateur' no longer applies. Todays definition is no longer $$$ centric. It's purely 'Has this person EVER played for pay for a professional league IN THE U.S.?' If not, then they are eligible to play NCAA basketball. G-League/Ignite are professional, and to my knowledge no player has moved from those leagues to an NCAA school... Please correct me if I'm wrong. And for the record, I fully expect even that will change in the near future.
They'd save themselves a lot of time to simply change the rule to allow anyone who has never been available in an NBA draft to play.

Not a pro. Whatever that means. You can get paid and lose eligibility. You can get paid and not lose it. Not sure where the line is.

Probably determined by how much you pay the guy who makes the decision.

That game is going to be jumping! Sooners at the Rebels..! Wow. I forget about the SEC Football now, Texas, Oklahoma.. With that said, knowing that, that basketball crowd will be jumping the next day as well.

I think everyone agrees that people who go to the NBA or to the G League can't return. So that there is some place overseas that can eliminate your eligibility isn't ridiculous. Not sure how the line gets drawn.

Given the NCAAs history with "student athletes" and how vigorously they've fought free market labor, it wouldn't surprise me that their eligibility hasn't caught up to the NIL era. I'm not sure how they tackle this either, since an elite hs player is probably worth a couple million, which is more than most overseas pros make. The distinction seems to have lost all meaning.

Piper writes "As for the talent angle, Torvik has Illinois second in the country (only behind UCONN) in 'effective talent' score. The Illini have multiple guys who are garnering attention from the NBA". Nice to see Illini 24-25 roster talent and potential being recognized by analysts. Underwood said he believes this team has a ceiling that is "maybe as high as any team we've had". Looking forward to this season more than any since 2004-05.
