None of the players I thought would be of any use to the Cubs made it through waivers. All the decent pitchers got picked up by Cleveland, who I didn’t even think was “in it” enough to bother putting claims in.

It seems the entire baseball community shares my opinion on Clevinger. He went unclaimed.

You're not alone in that. In my world that's called "the consequences of one's own actions."

Just got tickets to the game on September 23 - it'll be my wife's first time at Wrigley so I'm super excited to share it with her. The last Cubs game of any kind I saw in person was NLDS Game 4 in San Francisco in 2016, and last in Wrigley was I think back in 2014, so I'm curious how different it feels with the new video boards installed. Maybe a longshot, but if we really get hot between now and then, it'd be fun to clinch a wildcard berth while we're there.

I know it’s not news to anyone here, but Bellinger is having such a huge year. We’re only halfway through the first game of a double hitter and he already has a home run, 3 rbi and a stolen base.

He’s got a chance for a very pretty, old-fashioned back of the baseball card season, on pace for about a .310, 25 HR, 100 RBI, 25 SB season. Keep in mind he missed more than 30 games with that bruised knee.

I'd like to resign him, he has bounced back very nicely from a couple down years. but we'll see what kind of contract Boras will be asking for for his services

Boras will be asking for HUGE money and for 4-5 years too.

I’ll be pretty surprised if an agreement can be reached by mid December .

it’s a shame . I can’t fault him for asking for it and I can’t fault the Cubs if they feel it’s too much for too long .

His performance this year reminds me of 1987 when the Cubs first signed Dawson in his famous “ pay me whatever you want “ offer

per wiki :
Dawson campaigned for the Cubs to sign him during the off-season, however general manager Dallas Green resisted, insisting the Cubs would start Brian Dayett in right field (Dawson had moved from center field to right field in his final two seasons with the Expos, due to the condition of his knees), and that one player could not make a 71–91 team a 91–71 team. When the Cubs opened camp in Mesa, Arizona, that spring, Dawson and his agent Dick Moss arrived with a signed blank contract in an attempt to secure a contract with the Cubs. Dawson and Moss' stunt was derided as a "dog and pony show" by Green. After reviewing the contract, Green reached an agreement with Moss on a salary of $500,000.

He became the Cubs' starting right fielder, and hit a major league leading 49 home runs and was named the league's MVP.

Bellinger is the best free agent position player signing since Dawson

had a bad feeling it could come back to bite us not scoring in the first with men on first and second no outs and then bases loaded one out. brewers unfortunately winning at the moment

As good as Swanson has been in the field and as a team leader, I sure thought we would have gotten more from him at the plate.
yep. him, Candelario, morel and tauchman are killing the offense right now. if not for Bellinger we wouldn't be sniffing the wild card or division. seems he has single handedly won a bunch of games for us with his offense

I've had a rant on my mind the last few days that I need to get off my chest or my head will explode....
How does the MLB Competition Committee think it is fair and equitable for 1 or 2 teams to pick up ALL the worthwhile September free agents available?
How do they not think that the correct way to do it is to put in a claim for a player and if that team is successful they go to the bottom of the list of teams?
This is not sour grapes as a Cub fan. This is just reasoning that anyone with a brain would come up with.
Doesn't this also open up a collusion scenario where 2 "friendly" GM's can get together to agree that one GM will put a good player on waivers that they hadn't intended to and the GM who is in line to get the FA promises to reward the other GM with some sort of unannounced "future considerations"?
Am I the only one obsessed by the totally asinine idiotic way of conducting this process?
