When the Cubs made the Cuas trade, I said it was mostly about freeing up an outfield slot for PCA in Iowa and that Cuas was unlikely to get called up unless there was an injury. And I was sort of right. Stroman got hurt immediately and Cuas came up.

Where I was wrong is that he’s been really effective. 1 ER in 14 IP since the trade for a bullpen that’s been put through the wringer lately.

He really hasn’t helped himself with his 11 walks in those 14 innings. Maybe more lucky than good? Only saw him pitch once this year.

Reverse four 9th inning disasters when the bullpen gave games away, we would be the 1st place Chicago Cubs. Grrrrr.

Steele with an incredible year. I had higher expectations for him going in that he's well-exceeded.
I hoped for a solid #2 type pitcher. He has blown all of our expectations out of the water.

After he is done with the season and World Series, talk real seriously with him and his agent about making him a Cub for a lonnnnng time. No more Greg Maddux type catastrophes!

Don’t those happen to all teams? How many 9th inning leads have the cubs blown compared to the brew crew?

I can’t find it for just the 9th inning, but the Cubs’ 14 blown saves are tied with the Dodgers for the second lowest in MLB, with only Boston’s 12 in front of them.

That’s a little deceptive because the Cubs also have the 2nd lowest number of save opportunities in MLB, but their 68% conversion percentage is good for 7th in MLB. So, solidly above average. Their 3.94 bullpen ERA is 14th in MLB.

Not really a fan of tauchman leading off for us. Seems like more often than not, he strikes out in the bottom/top of the 1st
