IMO if you get a shot at what's considered a "Blue Blood" institution to join the B10 you have to take it! KU is that... That will bring better recruits to the conference and the brand names will standout to the kids coming up... and they will want to be a part of this conference! I think there have been many valid view points discussed in this thread...

The SEC commissioner is such a dope for leaving a catch like Kansas available to any other conference. I imagine that there will be a bidding war amongst the ACC, Big Ten and PAC [whatever number they're at].

Heard that at 16 teams. Big 10 probably goes 4 4 team divisions. Same report said we would play Iowa as much as Rutgers and OSU. Is there any rumors about what the divisional splits would be if it gets to that?
0440, sounds like my pod example was pretty close, just with Mizzou instead of Iowa State.

The question now is how will the pods be set up to protect rivalries and allow for easy cross-pod play. I suspect pods, groups, and Thanksgiving rivalries will be similar to below:
West: Nebraska (Group A, rival Kansas), Kansas (A, Neb), Iowa (B, ISU), Iowa St (B, Iowa)
North: Minnesota (A, Wisc), Wisconsin (B, Minn), Northwestern (A, IL), Illinois (B, NW)
Central: Purdue (A, IN), Indiana (B, Pur), Ohio St (A, Mich), Michigan (B, OSU)
East: Mich St (A, PSU), Penn St (B, MSU), Rutgers (A, Maryland), Maryland (B, Rutgers)

It'll be Kansas and no one else (out of the B12 remainder), IMO. The other schools don't meet the bar. Could the BIG have 15 teams? Sure, until the ACC's GOR expires.
One further point: while having Kansas on board is hardly a slam dunk, it makes joining the league more appealing (beyond dough) to UNC (and other schools where hoops matters).

Another round of conference expansion/realignment is going to require leadership that is quick on their feet. Not sure if Kevin Warren is that guy but I'm calling aTm today to see how they feel about this. Ticked off? Feel betrayed? We've got a spot for you in the B1G. All in all not likely but I'm calling them often. I'm also on the horn to UNC, Clemson and UVA to plant some more seeds for a few years down the road (UVA would be my last choice of these 3 as they don't move the needle much on FB). GOR issues will be at the forefront in any discussion with ACC schools but if enough money appears, or the threat of enough money disappearing down the road becomes a real consideration then anything becomes possible.

I would guess aTm gets over being cheated on and stays, so I'd move on to the ACC schools. Adding KU as a 15th member is meh for me as they do add a legit Blue Blood BB program but are a net loss in FB. Not to mention their athletic dept is a hot mess of dysfunction and virtually everybody associated with their BB program is a scumbag. I'll hold my nose and add them but only if I'm confident that it's a move that will bring in someone else down the road (UNC for example, one scumbag gets another).

I think pretty much every ACC program will be in play sooner rather than later so Mr Warren needs to be proactive to say the least.

SEC is a football focused conference. KU has a horrible football team.

Looks like KU and Iowa State are reaching out to the B1G while the Pac12 is talking with the Texas schools, TCU, Tx Tech and Baylor.

https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/spo...-state-set-up-call-with-big-ten/2563042/?amp=

I thought about the B1G trying to do this but not sure how good academics are. Combine these schools with a call to aTm like Gibb said below and the big ten is still all over Texas.

TCU itself grabs that DFW market and college station is the middle of nowhere on its own but I’d assume the second largest number of alums in the state.

College Station is in the middle of nowhere just like CU is.

TCU isn't happening.

Looks good. I would hope that for football at least, the 2 divisions would remain. The West Division would be the West and North pods, and the East Division would be the Central and East pods. 7 conference games within the division, 2 cross-division games.

all power 5 conferences have an executive who is constantly updating & analyzing the landscape. you can also bet they have an outfit like McKinsey on retainer to help with this

expansion will only take place IF the league schools will make MORE money afterwards , not less . I really doubt any of the remaining B12 schools can offer that dynamic , KU included . KC is simply not an important TV market and their football brand stinks .

I’ll state it again - expansion will really only occur if it involves ND, or the states of Texas , Florida , Georgia , NC or Va. I don’t see us looking west or far west for anyone .

Way more A&M support in DFW than TCU. It would be an interesting BIG move for sure. Probably would appeal to A&M who would feel abused once again by UT and betrayed by their new best friends in the SEC. Adding KU and A&M would be a strong BIG countermove. Brings big markets, blue blood, football and basketball pluses. I like the A&M route way better than Iowa State.

Academics went out the window for the B1G when Nebraska joined.
That’s not true. Nebraska might not be the research heavyweight that most of the rest of the Big 10 is, but it’s still a huge, research-oriented university. And any other adds to the Big 10 (other than Notre Dame - although that said, Notre Dame now looks more like a Big 10 school that it did 20 years ago) are going to be similar schools.

So, they’re not going to add public schools that concentrate on four year degrees over research - Kansas St, Louisville, UConn. They’re not going to add tiny, little religious schools - BC, Baylor.

Huge research institutions. That’s what the Big 10 wants.

That’s not true.

Actually it is. They lost their status in AAU (not the one most of us are familiar with in hoops) around the time they joined the conference. Every other B1G school is in it as far I'm aware. Even their own chancellor at the time admitted that had Nebraska not been part of the AAU when the B1G came calling, they likely wouldn't have gotten invited.

KU makes no sense for the Big Ten. They weaken the football strength of schedule necessary to make the playoffs. Also no new TV markets. I rather see Baylor since they turn around their programs or A&M. Opens up the Texas Tv market and recruiting markets. Do not bail KU out make. They bring nothing to the table

Many, many moons ago, I lived in Houston. Tons of Aggies there (tons of Horns fans too). A&M fits the profile better than all but a handful of schools.
