Chicago Cubs 2024

18-12 over their last 30. That’s the pace they’re going to have to continue if they want to sniff the wild card at the end of the season.

Parades has started slow with the bat, but they’re at least now able to field their best offensive lineup and best defensive lineup at the same time.

Amaya and PCA are showing good development. Swanson is emerging from his season-long slump. And getting Bellinger and Tauchman back of course helps. They can now give someone like Happ or Suzuki a day off and not have to play someone who doesn’t belong in the Majors.

They’ve completely rebuilt the bullpen on the fly. It will be interesting to see who stays/goes if/when people start coming off the IL.

I think it’s probably too little, too late, but I think they’ll be a better team than we’ve seen for the remainder of the season.

Cubs drawing 40,000 per game
most of which are dropping another $150 each on concessions . I just don’t think the Ricketts care if they win or lose as long as 40,000 keep showing up
They took that from the Wrigley family business playbook. As long as the Cub fandom continues to support that, the Ricketts will continue to utilize that playbook.

I've mentioned that I will be in Miami for the Saturday and Sunday games. The Cubs are one of their biggest crowds. The stadium is normally pretty empty. My daughter who lives there is cute. They had a marketing guy looking for cute ladies in the stands. They have given her free tickets just to have her in the ballpark. She said, "You know that I'm a Cub fan, right?" They replied, "You understand advertising, right?" She told them that she would need to bring her son and husband. Her son just likes baseball. He will watch even if the Cubs aren't playing.
They asked her to be an Ichiro Girl. Those girls weren't necessarily Icchiro fans, they were playing the part to be on TV. Their tickets, jerseys, caps, and concessions were free. She declined on the Ichiro offer. She didn't want to be acting the fool on TV, plus Miami was going to be playing the tape over and over. Long story longer, they pay for certain non-celebrity fans to be there.
I wasn't thinking about hurricane season when I set up the trip. We will see how it goes. We won't spend $150 total on concessions.

As usual this is the Sox' World Series. They usual take someone off the IL in time for the series.
Crochet has been limited to 3 or 4 innings. Today he'll pitch until his arm falls off.

Plus the fired manager shake-up. They will probably be playing with renewed vim and vigor.

The Sox have the most flaccid offense in baseball. With Taillon and Steele taking the mound for the Cubs, there’s no excuse not to take both games.

If the Cubs think they can get back into the playoff race, they absolutely must win both games.

This series starting on Monday against the Guardians where the Cubs only see one of their best starters and then 18 straight against teams with losing records.

Time to make a move in the standings.
welp .
back to scoring 1 run a game .

Cubs DFA Neris. If they did this in May would they be in the thick of the Wild Card hunt?
Or better yet: He was the only Cub pitcher on the opening day roster (and many others that come up later) that didn't land on the IL. If he spent a month on the IL like everyone else would we still be in it?
Well, that was 9M well spent...

Leiter has been pretty bad for the Yankees. Non-zero chance Neely is the better pitcher for the Cubs over the remainder of the season, which would make this a replay of the Effross-Wesneski trade.
