Chicago Cubs 2024

Cubs once again avoid a sweep.
Question: How could a team 6 games under .500 in August and in last place avoid being swept in a 3 or 4 game series all year?
Answer: They have been consistently mediocre.

Matt Shaw is starting to force the issue in AA. .385/.438/.673 over his last 28 games.

He’ll be in Iowa soon and probably get a cup of coffee in the Majors in September.
I know a lot of guys go straight from AA to MLB but I'd like to see Shaw go to Iowa for a couple weeks first just to see how he does. I'd like to see Owen Caissie at some point this year. Canario, too. He's at 32 HR & 96 RBI in 120 combined games at AAA. The kid deserves regular at-bats in MLB. If you can't find time for him in Chicago, trade the guy. He'll be 25 next season. It's criminal to let him keep rotting in Iowa, IMO, without getting him consistent time in MLB. I would have liked to see the Cubs trade Suzuki to make room for him, if anyone was interested. He does have a no-trade clause.

And Lucy pulls the football. But maybe she'll put it back down and Chuck will split the uprights. 6 outs to get it right.

Cubs drawing 40,000 per game
most of which are dropping another $150 each on concessions . I just don’t think the Ricketts care if they win or lose as long as 40,000 keep showing up

It’s true. 40k show up because it is a great place to see a game. The atmosphere is fantastic. It’s the best place to see a game even when they are losing.

A story as old as time. The Cubs had the 9th largest opening day payroll. They're the 3rd team in both value and revenue. They're essentially tied with the Red Sox from what I can tell. They haven't been in the top 3 of opening day payroll since 2019, the only time in the last 14 years.

So it's really hard for me to imagine they were ever really players for Shohei. Maybe they were just there to drive up the price for the Dodgers.

I'm relying on info I found from the web. Please correct my data if it's inaccurate.

Just like they did this year, they’re going to run basically the same team out there again next year and hope the result is better. What a crock. Hoyer acts like winning 83 games last year meant something.

People seem to think that playing .500 ball is an accomplishment. (None of us obviously) Winning the same amount that you lose or thereabouts IS NOT GOOD! It's not even good if that happens to get you into the playoffs.

They still talk about last year the way people talk about the '69 Cubs. Uh, those teams accomplished exactly nothing aside from improbable collapse.

drives me nuts that he keeps bringing up getting imanaga and busch over the offseason like we had a great offseason. so you brought in a rookie and star pitcher to a team that missed the playoffs, big deal. needed to do a lot more
