Although they probably think they have to come up with something, anything to make this interesting.

We will win enough games to mess up OUR pick ...just hope that Carolina's pick continues to be very low...

2. Vegas really does know how to make a line.
I am convinced that the people who run the sportsbooks in Vegas are in possession of alien technology. They know all the outcomes beforehand. They just pick a handful of contests on a daily basis and intentionally skew the outcomes in a way that makes them look fallible. Ever watch the Indie flick Primer, or The Man Who Fell to Earth????? Both are fantastic must watch movies if you are a bona-fide Sci-Fi nerd. :alien:

Edit: Oh, and if you do watch Primer, be sure and check out Upstream Color.....

I was looking at the standings and remaining schedule for the Bears and other bad teams, and it is impossible to figure out where teams will fall cuz so many play each other. Good news is that 4 wins seems to be the magic number (last year 3 and 4 in draft order had 4 wins: two years ago 3-5 in draft order). Given Bears still have Arizona on schedule that might be where they end up. The final game of season against GB could loom large. It’s in GB, which should help.

I’m hopeful Bears pick ends up no worse than 4. I think Giants with their QB situation (another reason to root for TDV) might end up 3.

Here’s another way to look at this ‘leadership’ and ‘steadiness’ issue.

Fields comes in as a really high draft choice with high expectations from a glamourous college program. But so far these high hopes have not translated itself to the Bears playing up to the level of the high expectations for Fields. So in that sense, he has not ‘lead’ the Bears to what they hoped to get (and yes, that all isn’t his fault).

Bagent comes in with NO expectations (except maybe his own) from a smaller and much-less-glamous school. And hardly a Bear fan can honestly say they expected anything from him before he made his first appearance. And yet he becomes an undrafted player from the Division II level that starts an NFL game for the first time in over 60 years. And looks decent in doing that.

Bagent having so small a sample size it’s tough to draw any permanent conclusions. While Fields has had much bigger sample size to show what he's got.

So... who is the better leader? A high draft choice who has not matched the hype? Or a guy that no one expected anything from and yet the team seemed to respond to him right away?

All of this will settle out over time. Fields will either get back in there and justify (or not) his staying with the Bears. And Bagent will see if he does have any long term career future in the League.

And honestly, there’s a chance that neither of these guys will be on the Bears for the long term. But both of them could still find a spot somewhere.
The better leader is the better leader. It doesn’t matter when or if they were drafted. There isn’t a sliding scale based upon that. We’re not talking “value” based upon salary, we’re talking leadership. And outside of early in training camp when they might have wondered who this guy is and thought “he went to what school?”, I highly doubt the players even think about what school he went to.

I’m not saying Fields is a great leader. I just haven’t seen any discernible difference in leadership from QB position under Bagent as you contended. Team won two games they should have (and really only looked good in one of those) and didn’t look nearly as good against slightly better competition in the other two games.

I’m glad you made your comment. I only skimmed the original post and thought it said Prime referring to the channel. Couldn’t figure out why Upstream Color wasn’t showing available on Prime for me. I’ve added both to my “to watch” list.

As have I. Go Bears!

Actually, the entire Bears organization is lacking overall in leadership. Who is really leading this franchise – from the field all the way up to the Owners box? And they have been lacking clear and good leadership for a couple generations since the ‘85 Bears. The ‘85 Bears... now THAT was a team that had leaders all over the field. Huge nasty defense. A ‘punky’ QB with attitude. One of the greatest running backs of all time. Leaders everywhere.

The Bears right now are a barge that is floating adrift on Lake Michigan. But the barge Owners are still getting very well paid. Because this Football Team Barge doesn’t have to deliver the goods. It just has to float.

So both Fields and Bagent are trying to captain a barge that doesn't know where the port is or how to get there.

That's great news but...I know we're getting better and NY or NE is not getting better...best guess...? Hoping for a top 4- 5 for our pick...We will win a few more...probably more than we want to...

I think this week should allow us to see if Bears are actually getting better or just beat two really bad teams in last month. Pick could end up as low as 8, but I’m with you and hoping for 4-5.
