My grandfather was on the athletic board from the late 80s to the early 2000s and he had a custom orange blazer that I was fortunate to inherit when he passed (I was the only grandchild to attend the U of I). I believe it was from Jos. Kuhn & Co. It's a pretty spot on beautiful orange.

When the shoe companies contracts cam into play coaches had to wear company apparel, and they don't make suits. A lot of other things have changed since then too. lol
I have a different reason for disliking Ohio State than I do our other rivals and conference foes. Because, invariably whatever athletic store I go into looking for a new Illini lid….I see a wall that looks something like the pic below….
I took the kids to the Wisc. Dells this last summer on a short getaway. Mind you I am in the heart of Bo Ryan Country…And there was ZERO…ANYTHING but Ohio State…not even Wisconsin stuff!! Zero! There was hardly any Milwaukee, Bucks stuff and they had just one the BIG one!! I couldn’t believe it…
It was like 4:1 Buckeyes to Bucks! Insane.
There was of course a few scattered Michigan hats wouldn’t ya know…almost as many as Milwaukee Bucks caps. Swear.
Yeah, it’s because of Ohio State football…blah, blah, and their rivalry with Michigan
Blah blah…but it ain’t like Ohio State is Alabama or something.
It’s like the 80s when there was Georgetown and Notre Dame crap everywhere. It irks me the reach that Ohio State and Michigan have nationally. I don’t get it. (Especially Michigan they’re overrated in both sports.)

I'm with you. It's not a silly rant to me, and I completely agree with the G'town/ND '80s analogy. Everyone loves a winner, so let's get the Illini in the mix, beginning with hoops.
I sure hope Mary has hung on to those jackets and they will someday find themselves on display at the Assembly Hall (I know, I know) if they aren’t already. Lou was the OG of orange blazers and those blazers must not be lost to history.
