Penn State 21, Illinois 7 Postgame

I’m as annoyed as anyone after this one, but 8 on the table?! 10 are on the table. 7-9 would be my bet, but this is a legitimately good football team. I won’t count them out a single week.
Expectation wise: 8 very much on the table and good outcome, 9 very good outcome, 10 very, very good outcome and probably a playoff spot (yes - 10-2 with this guantlet schedule will get us top 12). Of course we can fall short of 8...we're Illinois...but expectation wise, that's how I'd put it.

My prediction would be 8 - I just think beat Purdue and 3-1 the final four is doable...I may be wrong but I've thought that all along...

Main takeaway from this game: Talent discrepancy. Other than this, I thought we competed and didn’t look bad. Proud of the effort.
I keep thinking, wow, this team played toe to toe with a more talented team, and it was on national prime time audience. What recruit wouldn't want to come and play for this coaching staff?

If Coach B was on the other side tonight, this game isn't even close.

I LOVE FEAGIN with that strip sack tackle. It’s simple, in games where you are generally overmatched you have to take advantage of opportunities.
Speaking of Feagin, felt he was by far our best RB tonight and should have gotten more touches. McCray is a fine RB2 and Valentine and Laughery are good change of pace options, but Feagin HAS to be the RB going forward. No more of this committee stuff.

I think this game tells us a few things:
1. We absolutely deserved that +19.5 spread of Penn State didn’t have a bunch of flukey plays, penalties, and bad coaching. That’s a team that’s got way, way more depth and conditioning than you. Illinois has the right coaching in place, we just need the time.
2. Illinois is gonna be in it for probably all of their games. Oregon might be this way too, but that’s about it. Anywhere between 8-10 wins is absolutely still possible.

This one was house money, folks. Try to remember that.

yeah, I'm not sure why they passed at all. felt more like hubris than wisdom.

We had our chances and that almost fumble could have change the game

However we are missing the talent and depth to win those games without everything going right

If I was PSU I would hand it off to 10 and when he got tired 13. I wouldn’t throw it

It's weird to be in a game within one score for so long, but getting absolutely wrecked on both lines, especially in the second half. It was there for the taking, we just didn't take it.

We need dudes on our O line. Luke is lucky to be walking off the field. smh

Im putting this game on the offense. Bad playcalling and execution. They will need to step up big time and prove themselves. Offense was suppose to be a strength and right now its our weakness.

That bad snap at the end of the first half!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I never like to pick at one play/player in a loss, but that snap by Kreutz was the play of the game. We should have been up 14-7 at halftime with all of the momentum.

That said, big picture.....they have a ton more talent and depth. It their OC didn't try to be the smartest guy in the room, they could have ran the ball for 350 yards and the score would have been ugly.

Oh well. The failure to score at the end of the half was a killer.

The interior line (and backer on defense) play regressed to where they were before Nebraska, but Penn St. did have the athletes to push them around. That stress and the crowd had us on our back foot much of the game.

However, if this game was at home I think we might just win.

And now my palette cleanser is to watch the bears tomorrow!
