I like Knecht better. His shot is better. I worry TSJ shots start lower and finishes lower than Knechts. I also think they got to the hoop equally in college. TSJ is a better defender. I think you will see Knecht show that he can facilitate. He just wasn't asked to at UT.
Maybe he can facilitate but he'll still be half the defensive player Shannon is.

So Cam Christie wasn’t drafted in the first round yesterday. I’m wondering if he made a mistake staying in. I have to think he would have commended 7 figures in the portal and I think he’s an nba player, just needs to add strength.

Wondering if more and more fringe first/second rounders wind up sticking around in college longer due to the guaranteed money and if eventually some of the current stigma surrounding older players fades. The way NIL is going, it might not take college long to catch up to some of those first round deals too. If TJs reported contract details are true (a shade over $5M guaranteed over 2 years) and if Coleman really got $2M at KSU, we are already pretty close.

Think a lot of kids could benefit from sticking around in school. And selfishly as someone who prefers the college game to NBA, would really improve quality of college play as well.

He was recruited as a borderline 3/4 star guy out of high school, I'd hope he didn't think he'd go in the first round after one good year on a mediocre team.

Christie was in the first round of a lot of mock drafts, as was Johnny Furphy, as was Kyle Filipowski.

It was worth a shot for those guys in this bad draft, and they'll all make NBA teams and get an opportunity.

All things considered though, NIL is going to hold more and more kids in the college game, as well as pull kids in from overseas and pull talent up from the mid-major level. If the money can sustain itself, and doubly so if programs can develop a bit of continuity (both open questions at this stage) major college basketball is going to get stronger, especially from where it was pre-super senior.

All to the good, IMO. If only our conferences had lived to see it.

Minny seems to me to be making some terrific decisions when it comes time for their picks. Getting Dillingham, TSJr., and Klintman at those spots shows some pretty good evaluations and decision-making IMHO...which is worth what you pay for it!!

If some team had actually drafted Johnny Furphy ahead of TJ, I may have stuck my head in the oven last night.

I do not take much stock at all in high school ranking systems or the record of his college team in assessing where a player will get drafted.

The fact is that most draft rankings had him as late first round/early second round territory. Christie obviously got feedback from NBA teams that warranted staying in the draft, especially given how weak this draft class is. It is an open question of what he could get paid in NIL versus the contract he might get from the second round. However, he will absolutely get signed to play for some team, and it will get him one year ahead in terms of service eligibility. I do believe that Christie made the correct choice, overall. Add in the fact that some kids are simply done with "school", if they feel there is a near guarantee of getting drafted, there is definite reason to stay in the draft. What is true is that NIL is making these decisions much more difficult than before.

What's interesting is that the green room invites were handed out to players based on a league vote from executives on who they thought would go in the first round. So collectively they all thought Furphy and Filipowski would be drafted, but nobody wanted to be the team to do it until the second round.

It seems like he thought he'd follow his brother's path, and really the only differences I see in them on paper are that his brother played for a better team and was a 5-star recruit. He ended up getting picked 11 spots after his brother was picked in the 2022 draft.

He'll end up overseas within 2 years. There's very little chance he makes it in today's NBA. I foresee a lot of 3 second calls and pick and roll blow byes 👍

Too little, too late from Parrish. Does not make up for his season long national disparagement of Terrence, which helped damage TSJ as an All-American and Illinois‘ basketball coaches and program immeasurably.

Baylor Scheierman was that guy for me.
Furphy, at least, is 6'9" & 19 years old. He's likely to get significantly better than he is right now. Who knows? He could be really good. He looks the part.

Scheierman will be fortunate to have Pat Connaughton's career. (A solid bench player)

I think TJ is a starter, though just cracking Minnesota's rotation this year will be an accomplishment. He will overtake Kyle Anderson, once the game slows down for him. You can't teach his athletic traits.

My opinion means jack but having watched max's frosh year and cams (probably about 10 games each), i felt like Cam had the better year and played better. Could be a function of the team they chose though

MSU was the better team, but max didnt shoot it well at all for a surefire NBA shooter,(barely 30% from 3 if i recall compared to nearly 40 for Cam). I also recall max getting more open catch and shoots due to the talent around us. Meanwhile cam was hitting stepbacks, off dribble 3s, etc in the games i saw of him this year. And of course he was torching us that one game with an array of tough shot makes.

We'l see how it goes. I like his game

I've lost track of how many picks have been made during the commercials. I thought that would be the one improvement by separating the rounds but they couldn't even get that right.

groce had a guy get drafted, enrique freeman. his espn profile says he started as a walk-on. too lazy to look it up, but groce never got anyone drafted here, right? hill has played in the league, but i think was undrafted.

I’m not. It’s a joke though. I get that playing in the NBA with your son is an absolutely insane milestone, but achieving that goal by drafting him when he’s nowhere near ready just screams desperation.
I should have added /s.

That was the single most sure pick of the draft since there wasn't really any certainty at the top.

Sad that Bronny takes a NBA roster spot ahead of more qualified players when he should stay in school or play outside the NBA. Interesting how Lebron and JJ Redick co-exist while Reddick is responsible for fielding most competitive team and Lebron's playing career is getting near the end and he contributes less and less.
