Illinois vs Purdue, Saturday, October 12th, 2:30pm CT, FS1

gotta think thats the case for any program in the B1G or on their schedule for the remainder of his contract
Typically non-competes only apply when you choose to leave. I know Indiana is a fairly conservative state, but I can't imagine any judge would uphold an non-compete of the fired party (especially if they are a IU or ND fan) maybe Graham can take an unpaid internship.

I can tell you that the company I retired from had a 2 year non-compete if you left on your own and a 1 year of you were fired. And it held up in a court of law in Iowa.

That's bananas to me. My only experience of challenging one is in Massachusetts and it didn't hold up. Basically the case is that I work in such a niche area that the non-compete prevented me from providing for my family and that since I was let go the company had no right to block me from working for the competition.

For next year I'm sure Harrell is free to go wherever he wants.

If the question is us bringing him in and spilling all of Purdue's secrets for our next game, for one thing he'd never be hired again if he did that, and even if he tried one phone call from Tony Pettiti to Josh Whitman would put the kibosh on it immediately (I doubt Whitman would sanction it in the first place).

College coaching is a big time "honor among thieves" situation. There's a code.

I can understand the non compete if you leave voluntarily, but if you're canned it ought to be an open market for your skills. That really sucks.

Itv was Iowa and we all know about Iowa. I think if you were to leave the area, that would have been a different story. They were just concerned about getting their customers taken away.

If they're concerned about losing customers maybe don't fire the connection that could steal them. Sorry man you got screwed

Oh it's 100% a trap game in my opinion. Hard fought game against a Top 10 PSU followed by a huge game against a Top 10 Michigan with a team that has been blown out weekly sandwiched in between. A team that for whatever reason plays their best game of the season against us each year while we for whatever reason play like we've taken a couple of horse tranquilizers as part of our pregame ritual?

Yeah, that's the definition of trap game. But it's up to our players to not play like it's one. This game will show us where our team is at mentally and it'll give good insight to how we're going to play the second half of the season where it seems pretty much every game has an opponent that will beat you if you don't come out from the opening whistle. I for one think we have a fighter's mentality this season and seeing us bring that Purdue would be welcome and a sign of even better things to come.
I think our buy week came at a good time this season. 3 ranked teams, the last 2 on the road in consecutive weeks. Exhale, rest the body and the mind, and focus on Purdue. I’m calling no “trap” and total Illinois domination.

Am assuming Fichigan is an exception to that code.
That's why opposing coaches got so mad at them for something that really didn't offer any compelling competitive advantage.

That wasn't the point. Everybody knows you're not allowed to do that, and coaches are supposed to play by the code of the profession.

Simmons was a high school coach in Indiana for 23 years (9 of those years as a head coach). Then coached at Miami of Ohio as running backs coach for one year. Then this year he was an "offensive analyst" at Purdue.

Who Is This Owl GIF

Guy can coach … Trust me …

Still expect to win by 30 …

But Simmons is a good coach …

I have posted about this before (a lot ... lol), but I think the 2:30 pm game time for this specific game will actually make a big difference. There is not a large enough sample size in the Bielema Era to make definitive statements regarding how a game's start time affects attendance, and there are way too many other factors involved to assume too much of a correlation (e.g., Iowa brings more fans than Penn State, a Big Ten opponent brings out more Illini fans than an FCS opponent, etc.).

HOWEVER, the circumstantial evidence seems to indicate the following to me:

1. Our new attendance floor appears to have climbed to 50k for a Saturday game ... which is absolutely fantastic, considering we were drawing like 33k fans to some games when Bret got here, lol. So, getting closer to that threshold where Memorial Stadium looks full even in the East Balcony (about 55k to 56k) is much easier to accomplish than it used to be.

2. Big Ten opponents seem to be good for about a 10% bump in attendance, depending on the school.

3. All else equal (which, again, is very difficult to analyze...), a 2:30 pm start time seems to draw maybe an extra 1k to 2k fans to the game who otherwise might have not come for a variety of reasons (e.g., you can drive down the morning of from Chicagoland for a 2:30 pm game much more easily than for an 11:00 am game).

Seeing that we are nearing a sellout for Michigan and we have a bye week this week (absence makes the heart grow fonder!!), I am now cautiously optimistic that the Purdue game will be a big crowd. It's a ways out, but the forecast for October 12th in Champaign looks literally elite. Purdue is a traditional Big Ten opponent. Our fans appear energized after the 4-1 start, and most will expect a victory.

I'm going with just under 57,000 after a big rush of ticket sales after this coming bye week.

After frustration of Penn State I hope Illini come out ready to play.

35-0
Feagin rushes for 150 yards and 2 TD
Altmyer throws for 250 yards and 3 TD
Defense shuts out Purdue

We knew the team was special that year!
