Illinois vs Purdue, Saturday, October 12th, 2:30pm CT, FS1

There went all the game film. They do have to play Wisc tho so we will be scouting that heavily I'm sure. Will be interesting to see who gets the interim job. Not a lot of experience on staff it doesn't appear.
There's no way they throw out their entire playbook in two weeks. It takes a long time to get guys into a groove. My money is on they want the playbook to start but with more effective play calling if possible

This feels like a trap game. It’s a game that we should win and we have Michigan coming up the next week. As long as we come into game right and we execute I think we should be fine but we do have a tendency to lay an egg against this team like we did the last 2 years.
Oh it's 100% a trap game in my opinion. Hard fought game against a Top 10 PSU followed by a huge game against a Top 10 Michigan with a team that has been blown out weekly sandwiched in between. A team that for whatever reason plays their best game of the season against us each year while we for whatever reason play like we've taken a couple of horse tranquilizers as part of our pregame ritual?

Yeah, that's the definition of trap game. But it's up to our players to not play like it's one. This game will show us where our team is at mentally and it'll give good insight to how we're going to play the second half of the season where it seems pretty much every game has an opponent that will beat you if you don't come out from the opening whistle. I for one think we have a fighter's mentality this season and seeing us bring that Purdue would be welcome and a sign of even better things to come.

I don't get the hand-wringing about Purdue firing their OC, as if someone is going to come in and install a new offense in two weeks that will right the ship. At best we'll see a new wrinkle somewhere, and perhaps a different tempo/approach to play-calling and opening drive. I'm guessing that Walters wanted to put up the now-hiring flag sooner rather than later, and that someone on the staff will assume interim play-calling. Whomever is interim play caller is going to be auditioning himself, so I'd still expect competence.

If I was a Purdue fan looking at the rest of the season, I'd probably also be looking to basketball season and coordinator search discussions.

Preemptive strike too —- he’s the problem, not me!

Turmoil in West Lafayette is helpful to our cause and certainly not a threat!

Pu and Mich will watch the Penn game and see how they ran against us. Especially Mich. Mich has two good rb’s. Let’s hope Henry fixes the front 7. As an Illini fan I know he will.

I know I'd much rather go against the incompetent with a known playbook and a likely demoralized team than an unknown and all of a sudden a team with a bit more purpose.

Can't see this righting the ship, but it's a wild card we don't need when everything is setting up well.
I feel like Walters may be starting to go into panic mode relative to his job status.

IIRC, the sellout tracker was closing in on 49k the last time it was posted for this one. Considering we got over 51k for Central Michigan (even with it being Homecoming), I think the fans are going to turn out to see our guys for the first time since going into Lincoln and getting that win. Scanning social media, the reception to the PSU loss seems remarkably positive from our fans ... most seem to think we played well, showed a ton of potential and just simply couldn't hang with a top 10 team in a crazy environment, especially with some of the mistakes we made. The point? I do not think it reduced enthusiasm for this team.

I predict we have a crowd of over 54k for this one, we beat Purdue by three scores and we welcome Michigan to a sold out Memorial Stadium to face a 5-1 Illini team ranked in the top 20 again.

Yeah there won’t be some seismic shift in their offense. I would expect a couple trick plays or some weird personnel formations and the like sprinkled in somewhere, but not much more than that. Although there will be that ‘unknown’ factor that sometimes makes people nervous

Whelp, everything seems to be going well over there for Coach Walters. Purdue just fired their offensive coordinator.
The Purdue fan base have been calling for this all season. They all want an air raid offense. With their weak defense, I don't see Walters wanting an air raid offense. This will not end well.

As to who calls plays - Cory Patterson is listed as an associate head coach, so my guess is that he is it.

I remember the complaining that all our home games were almost always at 11am. This year have good starting times except the EIU game. I believe the Mich game will be at noon with big noon game day. Beat Purdue. Going into the Mi game 5-1. Beat Mich 6-1.
