There’s a reason Brad told Josh to pay Orlando whatever it takes to get him here @Indy Illini Fan …..and he still might be under payed

If he re-classed and committed to us, would he join this coming season? I'm thinking classes start in a few weeks.Exactly what I told O after watching him ... Kid has a ton of potential ...
Getting him on the reclass and redshirt with Fletch will definitely not hurt ...

Nah. These high profile guys are not ambassadors. They don't care what college they attend, as long as they get their money. Those schools with high-net-worth boosters and corporations are going to push NIL values higher. Good for AJ and others, they bring in money to the university and should be rewarded as high-profile ambassadors for the university.
Mercenaries would be a more appropriate term.Nah. These high profile guys are not ambassadors. They don't care what college they attend, as long as they get their money.
Do we really think this is THAT different from when shoe companies were doing this under the table?Mercenaries would be a more appropriate term.

I'm sure a bunch of Chicago kids desperately wanted to go to Lawrence, KS & Lexington, KY for 1-2 years to hang out. Provo, UT isn't much different.
I didn’t say (or imply) it was different. Just calling it what it is.Do we really think this is THAT different from when shoe companies were doing this under the table?

NIL dwarfs NIke/Adidas payouts. Only a few universities were paying players - Kansas, UK, Duke, AZ, Michigan, Louisville etc, Now with NIL everybody can do it without cheating. Should be interesting to see how it all turns out. Great to see players get a share of pot instead of it all going to coaches and university.Do we really think this is THAT different from when shoe companies were doing this under the table?

I think skyrocketing coaches salaries was the genesis for the pay-to-play movement. The gulf between player and coach renumeration just became too wide to sweep under the rug.NIL dwarfs NIke/Adidas payouts. Honestly, I think the additional the transfer portal and COVID years kind of cloud the impact a bit. Are we really seeing 4 and 5 star recruits start to eschew the traditional powerhouses in favor of other schools to get paid?NIL dwarfs NIke/Adidas payouts. I'm not sure it's fair to say that they're both struggling. Kentucky isn't doing as well in recruiting after the coaching change, but Kansas continues to sign top transfers and top players. I think there are a couple other factors at play. One is that NIL means that no single team can afford to sign 5 of the top 8 players in the country any more. Too expensive. Another is that there are more players at the top now. BYU to name one example.Exactly. There is NO difference.
And just fascinating that in the first year or so of NIL that Kansas and Kentucky are struggling compared to what they did historically.

It’s certainly subjective; and you’re obviously entitled to your opinion. But I would have a hard time saying Oats and Otz are a tier above Musselman…and I think Brad is prolly on par with at least Otz.Top 14 ranked classes

Shaka is gonna have to do a little more of tap dance before I’d put him that high…after the way he fizzled out in Texas. JMO

agreed. We should be ranked much higher. Any team that underrates us will get whipped.4 top 51 kids in our freshman haul & we aren’t in the top 10??
I have been impressed with this young man since his freshman year at St.Rita, and he’s still getting better with good size and athleticism.
