It was always a love - hate relationship between Coleman Hawkins and Brad Underwood. No one should be surprised that it didn't make it to year 5.

Hawkins was encouraged by his family to stick it out at Illinois for four years and he realized that it was in his best interest. It wasn't his preference if he had a better option, though.
This pretty much describes the way I looked at Coleman's play. I understood what good he brought to the team, but was frustrated most games with all his complaining and questionable decision making.(Penn State game comes to mind)

Apologies if this has been discussed already (I’ve been hanging out at other places lately), but if Coleman goes somewhere and blows up in his one year, becoming a lottery pick, that could hurt us on the recruiting trail down the road, no?
Maybe as much as Podz blowing up at UCSB hurt us.

Kids frequently improve from year to year. Coleman improved a lot from year 3 to year 4 and he could continue in that trend. Podz of course is on a whole different level and in isolation I don't think his experience looks great for BU. But I also think recruits pay attention to so many other things that it doesn't matter.

I'll add that Coleman was (approximately) the 160 ranked player out of H.S. His performance for us far surpassed that recruiting ranking. He improved significantly while at IL. So that looks good for us. But again, it's one of 10,000 things a recruit might look at.

If we're talking about a top producer coming from high level, winning teams.....you really can't put our guys high on any list. Can BU develop them? Absolutely! We saw that last year. However, as we sit here today....they're middle tier guys with upside. Boswell is the closest guy that we have to a true contributor on a winning team and he's ranked as such.

I just meant in general, not necessarily just our guys

What's really up with BYU? Goodness...

Hope we get a visit too. Piper said we'll have to pay him around 2 mil (maybe even more). Whether that's worth it or not is another deal...

but hope he visits here as well - it's been said on here he will.

Is anything beyond 2024-25 able to be accurately predicted for any program? If players are going to be paid directly by the schools — in effect, becoming employees — is any current commitment for the future a sure thing? What if Indiana says “Jeremiah Fears… we’d like to hire you as our point guard for $X.XX dollars for three years?” That commitment to Illinois could vanish in a heartbeat. It will essentially be the portal era on steroids.

They could do that now.
With the schools being able to pay kids directly, I would supposed that multiple year contracts will become the norm.

Agreed. And I must have simply had an uncontrolled muscle spasm that caused me to mentally block the "good riddance/dead to me" crowd. I never saw that and I'm glad I didn't.
CoHawk reminds me a great deal of my freshman-year roommate. A sophomore, which tells you something. Guy was, coincidentally, a solid 6'-plus hoopster. Athletically and academically gifted. Among a handful of the smartest people I've ever met. And a completely arrogant, immature, pain-in-the-s$$. It's a wonder I didn't bludgeon him at some point that year.

Love him like a brother, though. He grew up and we keep in touch regularly 40 years later. A couple weeks ago I brought up some ridiculous argument we had that year concerning music. (He was mocking something I was playing on my boom box.) Was rofl'ing about it. His response was brilliant: “Sorry. As someone once noted: 'One of my least favorite people in this world is my 18-year-old self.' ”

My ardent wish for TrollHawk is that he'll have the self-awareness to use that line in ~ 25 years.

Hearing it could be closer to 3M

This kid is 100% going to the highest bidder.

The challenge today is the permanent record of an 18 year old self for many.

We were spared.

Do we know who the primary frontrunners are for Riley at the current moment? I know it sounds crazy...but is it truly that much of a stretch to say we might be the frontrunner? Especially if he decides to reclass...there are reasons to believe he won't go to the other 4 listed IMHO.

Alabama's got no open scholarships remaining.

Kentucky - this would be really surprising IMO - he'd be buried on the bench. Don't know if he'd even get 15 min/game tbh.

Arizona just lost 2 top 50 guys and the noise is that they didn't have the $$ to keep them after getting Caleb Love back. If they don't have the $$ to keep their current (and less talented) recruits, it's hard to believe they have the $$ to go get a guy like Riley. Plus, they won't be able to sell PT as much as people think: he's got more chance to start here than there. Bradley, Love, DellOrso, Townsend, Krivas - don't see him starting over any of them.

Arkansas - maybe. But their focus seems to be on veterans, like Coleman, and they likely will just add 1 more according to Calipari. And they too are loaded at the wing spot.

Speaking of Coleman and Arkansas...if he goes there, how much do the dominos fall in our favor with this recruitment? It's been said that Jaxson Robinson going to KY greatly helped our chances...

Thanks for sharing. I remember one of the insiders saying the difference in maturity between Coleman and Domask was insane (or similar words). I’m sure that rubbed BU the wrong way at times.

Hope Coleman makes a huge jump next year like TSJ. Want to see him live out his NBA dream.

Is that really surprising? Domask plays like a 40 year old at the Y who has to ice down his knees after a game.

And I mean that in the best way possible. He was also a 5th year senior and a coaches kid.

Also, I love Coleman for last year but the previous years were up and down. There was also the entire birthday party thing.
