I was at a grocery store in Champaign the other day and ran into Zack Hammer. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

This one is a little obscure, I don't think a large part of the audience here will get this is a meme post.

It will be interesting to see how much freedom on the court Coleman will be given at his new landing spot. Over a 4 year period he earned Brad's respect and trust. Brad seems to transfer a lot more responsibility to players who earn it (e.g. Trent, Ayo, etc) than most coaches do. Toward the end of their stints, he asks for their opinion and values their input to the point where they are virtually running his practices. Most coaches let their ego get in the way of that aspect of player development. By the time he was a senior, Coleman had the reigns in most games with a long leash. Hard to imagine a coach who will be willing to let him do that from day one of their player-coach relationship. Unlikely but I hope for his sake that it's a good match.

Whoa, I read this same thing on Reddit the other day about Rivers Cuomo. This must mean that they are really the same person! Who would've thunk it

I guess that would explain why the defense wasn’t very good. Punchy guitar solos. Weak defense.

In my view, this is probably the biggest reason why he should transfer. Sometimes familiarity is restrictive to growth. Coleman was running some practices by the end of last season. Brad may have been running out of ways to challenge him. ( you can put that on Brad if you want, but it’s a rare case where you have a guy as smart and talented as Coleman for 5 years)
Experiencing something new will likely spur greater growth in Coleman than running it back in a place with a ton of familiarity.

Agree totally that he needs new challenges and that he may have learned all he could from Brad. My point was that his next landing spot may not give him as much freedom to use his incredibly high bball IQ. He will have one year and it will take some time for the new coach to turn over the reigns. It may largely depend on who the coach and playmaker(s) are. Hope it's a good fit regardless.

JMO, obviously, but that service is absolutely dreadful at portal rankings
If we're talking about a top producer coming from high level, winning teams.....you really can't put our guys high on any list. Can BU develop them? Absolutely! We saw that last year. However, as we sit here today....they're middle tier guys with upside. Boswell is the closest guy that we have to a true contributor on a winning team and he's ranked as such.

"Sorry to see him go" and "time to move on" ("good riddance" is unduly extreme) aren't mutually exclusive fan sentiments toward CoHawk.
Agreed. And I must have simply had an uncontrolled muscle spasm that caused me to mentally block the "good riddance/dead to me" crowd. I never saw that and I'm glad I didn't.

This may be the weirdest post I’ve ever read on here…and if you’ve ever read post-game threads after a loss, you know that’s saying something.
I'm just catching up to this point. I have to admit I stared at the post and read it a couple times. Then I thought, "Who's Zack Hammer? This is going to tbe good"

Humrichous will end up being one of thee best transfers in this class
That just may be. I really like the mechanics of his stroke. We see a myriad of inefficient strokes shooting rather high volume from the arc in the NBA...because they practice until it is done with confidence and without thought. If Hummer can practice enough with the solid mechanics that seem to be natural to him....he may be a 60% shooter or better from the arc. So its never been done in volume? Doesn't mean it can't or won't be happening someday. But likely not today.

My point is that there are not many guys with his size and skills from the arc. What his ceiling is depends on how much time and effort he is willing to put in to become elite. Some guys will, others won't. It takes elite sacrifices to become a legend at a skill. What sacrifices he is willing to tackle and work to suffer through are to be determined....but the foundation is there so it seems.

Apologies if this has been discussed already (I’ve been hanging out at other places lately), but if Coleman goes somewhere and blows up in his one year, becoming a lottery pick, that could hurt us on the recruiting trail down the road, no?

It was always a love - hate relationship between Coleman Hawkins and Brad Underwood. No one should be surprised that it didn't make it to year 5.

Hawkins was encouraged by his family to stick it out at Illinois for four years and he realized that it was in his best interest. It wasn't his preference if he had a better option, though.
