I do love the Kasparas pickup if/when it happens, though if he is the only pickup and we keep 2 openings into the season, I am somewhat nervous about our perimeter defense and I think teams with quick guards might cause us some major issues. If we assume Boswell, Ivisic, Humrichous, and Kasparas all start, outside of Ivisic, Kasparas might have the highest defensive upside, but he's also young and will likely have some struggles and be foul prone. Humrichous looks to be a minus defender and Boswell might be around average- he was slightly less than that last year. Makes me think that with no other additions, Ty almost certainly would need to be the 5th starter just for the perimeter defense and rebounding he'll bring. And if he has some better body control and finishing this year, I like him rotating down low while Ivisic goes out for three and Humrichous finds the gap for Boswell and Kasparas to deliver the ball to the best option.

Seems like a solid team, though we're going to be pretty sensitive to foul trouble on the perimeter and teams with fast experienced guard are going to cause some headaches. May have our fair share of shootouts this year.
I doubt Rodgers starts over White, unless he can shoot the ball from farther than 6 ft.

I agree that we will likely see shootouts simply because of the pace I expect them to play at, but I think you're underestimating DGL's potential defensive impact.

I'm not really worried about smaller quick guards because I think DGL is quick enough to stay in front of anyone in the country. At the end of last year he was doing an incredible job getting around screens and now he will have another off-season of development and work with Fletch.

Also, I would assume Fletch's plan for Boswell is to cut weight to get leaner and more explosive which could help him immensely on defense.

Just caught up on this thread. I laughed so many times. Brilliant content today. Nothing unites like weed, a comrade to fight for, and smiles from Denzel.
Cheers.

I'm post 40 post 420. 40 Oz of beer it is.

Dan's post doesn't count, so post 421 is post 420, making your post 460 post 459, which would be post 39 post 420.

Don't forget Morez our super freshman. He's going to get some quality minutes.
Tomisiav - 12 ppg. Booth 10 ppg. White- 14 ppg. Kasparas- 15ppg. Kylan 10 ppg. Johnson - 10 ppg. Ty- 6 ppg. DGL - 6 ppg. Davis - 6 ppg. Ben - 13 ppg.

it looks like we will average 102 points per game next year. Even with the most pessimistic Illini family member, can you see anyone standing a chance against us next year?

There he is :)

They have not said anything good about Illinois this year. Ranked us 16th in the league. Podcast is worthless. I quit watching them.
Illinois is ranked 16th by Bart Torkiv's metrics, not Sleepers opinion.

If you don't find them worthwhile, that's fine. But they aren't doing what they do to be anything but goofy hot take guys. I think they are hilarious. I'll listen to the Illini Inquirer guys for serious takes.

sometimes they're right, but they talk out of their butts too
Even the blind squirrel finds the acorn sometimes. These guys are just too young; you need to be around the block a time or two to make a plausible evaluation of a players' talent. I take them with a grain of salt.

Be honest now, doesn't that really apply to all of us? ;)
not really. I would guess everyone one of us sees Egor as a special player, maybe even NBA ready now. And we won't be wrong.

Why would you call Humichrous a poor defender? He's an experienced senior. How many games have you watched him play? It would need to be at least five or six to make any judgment about his defense. You would have had to focus on him in those games. How about his foot work? His ability to fight through screens? You would need at least all of those to judge his defense.

I'm guessing White will start as one of our wings. He brings a skillset nobody else does.

It seems to me Booth and Davis have very high ceilings. If Booth is really 6-10, I'm not sure he's done growing. He's real skinny and needs a fletch year to gain strength and muscle mass. If he does, I think we'll see him add an attack the basket game with aggressiveness and confidence. You can add that to his ability to shoot from deep.

Is this the day something goes boom? I've still got my fingers crossed on Egor, but would be happy with Kasparas.

I know Ty is a favorite around here but is he really a betrer all round player than White? Ty knows the culture and reps it but as an all round basketball player White and Ty are similar in size but White can do a lot of the same things as Ty plus is better on offense. It going to be a battle for minutes and especailly at the 3 spot.

Can Booth or even Davis develop and challenge at the 3. Booth did play a lot at ND and could do well in that role.
