Storr was Second Team All-B1G.Watched both of last season’s games vs bucky over the weekend and I must say I am not disappointed we passed on Storr. Despite the transfer rankings and sudden hype, I just don’t see him as elite.
Again, number 2 assumes that Illinois would be unable to make a competitive offer. And it also presumes Dee would just take highest bag, something that there is no evidence of him doing at that time. You want to say Deron wouldn't have stayed, I think there is enough info from that time that I think that is probable. But Dee? He was ride or die with us back then. Hell, if it wasn't for him being so adamant that he was going to stay, I don't think Deron comes back. He held that team together.A few distinctions:
1: Then, he would have to had to sit out a year in exchange for transferring. Today, he would not have.
2: Because paying players was “illegal”, that kept the number of bidders low which kept the overall dollar figures low and not as life changing. If Dee could have legally secured a $1-2m bag without having to sit a year to transfer, you gotta assume he does it.
I think there are numerous challenges and questions with overseas players, part of me just wants a proven college player. I imagine we will need to open the NIL wallet to land one of these players why not get a proven SG with that bag. Possibly we are, we still have time before the NBA draft drop out date. The players might be waiting to see what the market value finally settles at in a couple of weeks.I hope we're kicking the tires on the Lithuanian kid who plays for Barcelona. he good:
I really like Ant's assessment.
A team of Luke Goodes with modern training and technology would beat a team of Michael Jordans with 1980s training and technology.Overall, we can sit here and say what people would've done 20 years ago all we want to fit whatever narrative trying to be proved but that's a disservice to the past. This is like next level who would win in a 7 game series, MJ's Bulls or LeBron's Heat and saying LeBron in 4 because no 90s Bulls player would make an NBA team currently due to better conditioned athletes.
I mean not true on the money part but yes true on the dumb fans part.
I agree with you- I would have been excited for a talent like Egor, but an 18 year old kid adjusting to the college game - I’m not sure of a good comp but maybe Franz Wagner? Different style of player but one that had an impact right away - he averaged 11 and 6 his freshman yearI think there are numerous challenges and questions with overseas players, part of me just wants a proven college player. Egor is a Top 10 NBA pick THIS YEAR level talent with experience playing well against grown men. Egor would get us those 17 ppg if we needed them from him.I agree with you- I would have been excited for a talent like Egor, but an 18 year old kid adjusting to the college game - I’m not sure of a good comp but maybe Franz Wagner? The issue is we need a lead dog that will score 17+ppg and I don’t think that would be Egor - then he’ll be gone to the draft in a year
So I’m back on the college transfer bus and take the best wing that drops out of the draft
Other factor that is different back then are is high school players went into the draft without waiting a year. How would that affected the pay pool for good college players?Dee would have never been an Illini had this stuff been going on back then.
Indy, are you hearing conflicting reports, as far as Egor goes ? I know earlier today, 0440 mentioned this. So, I was curious, if you had anything to add or say where you think we are with him?
Do you think Egor stays with Real Madrid or is another school a likely destination?Lot of conflicting info out there …
Think it’s more likely we wind up with a guy going through NBA process than Egor …
I’ve listed the guys a couple days ago … It’ll be one of them based on what I’ve gathered … And I know Brad’s preference but people read this board and I ain’t gonna hurt us in negotiations …
Ain’t gonna be Kaluma or Wooga …
I’ll also say … There’s a certain kid people thought was a to follow his HC … It ain’t a lock and we’re in pursuit …
