Wow...45.5% 3p has to be a program historical leader??Just so we're clear, Steven Bardo's career stats were:
4 assists per game, 70% Free throws, 43.9% FG, and 45.5% 3pt. FG. It's almost like he had natural PG Skills. Just saying.

These are college kids. It's often not that deep. You truly don't always know what your going to get-just need to bring in talent and they have done that. There is a world where Curbelo turns into an Illinois legend. Same with Adam. Alan Griffin could have stayed. Etc.....
Brad is not a perfect coach by an stretch of the imagination.
But he has brought Illinois Basketball back from the dead. Two big ten championships. Yes last year was disappointing, but he had to overhaul an entire roster that had Kofi, Trent, Damonte, etc and still made the tourney.
The team this year brings back a ton of talent and experience, and yes the stakes are higher. More pressure on Brad and co. But the bashing of the team and even the pg situation is something that I don't understand. This team can still be really good.
And yes they can 100% make the second weekend. Enough talk about Sean Miller or any other coach until next season is over. We have a damn good squad and I'm ready to see what they can do. After last year, they have a huge chip on their shoulder. And I can tell you right now they hear the negativity and will use that
3.8 apg for a career is not some sort of "natural point guard".Just so we're clear, Steven Bardo's career stats were:

Compare their freshman stats, Bardo was better at the free throw line and made 1 three. He started 10 out of 31 games, so maybe Ty has a chance.Just so we're clear, Steven Bardo's career stats were:

You don’t understand the frustration over the PG situation? That seems disingenuous. I think the frustration is primarily b/c what you’re saying…there is a ton of talent and what appears to be a great mix of players. Just feels like that solid, experienced PG is the missing piece to make this a top 10 team. That’s the frustration. These are college kids. It's often not that deep. Awful take.Motion to stop the tired use of the word “take”
If Ty is the 87 version of Steve Bardo we are knocking on the top 10 this year. I've seen comments about the # of assists in this thread - that's not the only marker of a good PG. Bardo was a great defender, good distributor and set the offense well. If Ty can do that (not to mention how well he rebounds) we will be in great shape this year.Actually, the past includes a ton of players that have made a substantial jump from year one to year two. I guess you were one of the people that was certain that Podz would amount to anything.
No one is saying he's going to be Steve Smith next year. But could he be the 1987 version of Steve Bardo? Sure. That wouldn't be a miracle. Would that be enough to get this team to a top 25 finish? Not sure. A lot of other things have to come out right.
Last year, I was one of the skeptics about the level of talent we had and how easy it would be to meld into a team. I remain a skeptic about this year's team. And I'm disappointed in much of what has happened in roster building the last few years.
As to your final comment, I hope he doesn't panic and add a guy that isn't right for the team. I'm not sure who the proven point guard is that is available and would come here. But I wouldn't pick up one just because of the chatter on a message board.
I think you are missing the point- he would be a point forward who runs the offense but is guarded by and will guard another forward most of the time. He will also play Uber the basket a bunch for his rebounding on both ends- the guards on the floor will be responsible for getting back on D, guarding the other teams PG etcI find it absolutely baffling that there are posters on this forum who actually think that throwing Ty in at point guard will lead to anything good this coming season. Ty should be playing forward, where his skillset is most suitable. Not attempting to fit his square peg skills into what would amount to a very round hole.
He's not a point guard either... did you watch him play or are you just pissed off he's going to be drafted? Did you watch the NBA playoffs this year? Think Podz could guard anyone there? He is about to get drafted top 15 in this upcoming draft class. Are you saying that we should trust the evaluations of anonymous posters who are simply relaying to this board what the IL staff was thinking/saying about him over the NBA draft scouts who evaluated him over the past college season?
He could have played here and been a major asset running point on last years team. Podz said that BU basically told him that he wasn’t good enough… this was a huge misevaluation and cost us last year. It is having ramifications today as we still can’t find a PG and it’s been noted that other schools are using the “they run off PGs” in negative recruiting against us… ie Ray J Dennis.
Just wanting to re-post this as it is profound. There may be a play or set that starts with Ty having the ball at the top of the circle, but playing him at PG full time is as negative an idea as any ever purported....and we are talking about the Loyalty Message Board which is as goofy as any. Ty is a beast at the rim where his skills are elite. Take that away and regardless of what the team needs, it is weaker. What he can contribute is as an option for breaking a press...but otherwise his skills are wasted if he is more than 12 ft. from the rim. Ty, Harris, and Dainja need to commit fully to finding help with and improving their FT % if they want to be on the floor more.Yeah, I can imagine it. I see his shaky handles and non-existent shooting skills and I'm thinking, "This is going to be a fun night for my team."

TY has the potential to maybe be better than Bardo, but it’s not a given. Bardo was an excellent team player who deferred to his teammates, but don’t be fooled. Bardo could play. He was good enough to play in the NBA for a minute.Ty is going to be better. Just sayin.
Edit: didn’t see “pg”. Ty will be a better player than Bardo though, definitely. Sorry not sorry
If you spell Ty Rodgers in Scrabble, you win. Forever.
Ty is the new Chuck Norris.
Impressive stat, though Bardo's judicious shot selection and the shorter 3 point line back then played a role.
Not sure who the all-time leader is, but Doug Altenberger had a sweet jump shot and made 47.5% on 3FG (over 5 attempts per game) in his only season after the NCAA adopted the 3FG.
What do you suggest as a replacement?Motion to stop the tired use of the word “take”
