Compared to everyone else? What was he doing that made him standout, please.
He was mobile, physical. Made some shots from the outside. Got to the rim and converted with body control and strength. I was pleasantly surprised.
Any OPH sightings? Wilkes was in early Friday so you figure he needs to leave pretty early this morning.
Wow! I'm still 98% sure Wilkes isn't coming here, but Groce and Whitman are pulling out all the stops. Impressive.
So, any word on the visit?
I got to Ubben a little before two yesterday.
I got to Ubben a little before two yesterday.
I saw Brian Randle, Gene Cross, Kendall Gill, Lou Henson on the sidelines at various times.
The scrimmage was divided into 6 minute periods with a 2 minute break in between. Each period one team won or lost. Damonte Williams and Javon Pickett each hit "game winners" during the session. Pickett's was a drive, miss his shot, grab his own rebound and put it in. Damonte's was a fifteen footer where he got his own shot.
Lucas and Morgan did not play during the scrimmage. Lucas did hit five straight NBA threes while shooting around. And, of course, JCL did not play.
Recruits:
Wilkes: It is easy to see why he is a five star. Although he is very skinny, he had some very athletic plays and held his own defensively. He blocked a couple of shots, his some outside shots, and had a couple of thunderous dunks. Handled the ball well and looks to be a 3/4. His mom and dad were there along with what appeared to be some younger siblings. Our strength coach talked to mom and dad for awhile on the sideline.
Williams: He is the most physical of the recruits who played. More developed body. He played mostly off the ball but was able to create his own shot when he did have the ball. Hit a couple of outside shots but was most effective taking the ball into the lane and pulling up.
Pickett: Really good all around game. Did not look for his shot as much as the other two, but he scored mostly in the lane when he did shoot. Took a couple of threes but missed. (he can shoot the three, though, as he had a handful of them when I saw him score 41 last winter). He also worked hard on defense and was very team oriented.
Tilmon: did not play. Watched from the sideline.
It was just one scrimmage, so it is hard to take too much away from it. Obviously, the current team made sure to make the recruits feel like they were part of the team and made sure they got the ball quite a bit, especially Wilkes.
During the scrimmage, the coaches disappeared per NCAA rules. Groce was on the court before and after the scrimmage. He spent ten minutes or so with Henson and took a picture with Lou in the middle and Groce and Dee on each side.

so groce visiting wilkes this week?
this definitely has more of the feel of the JCL official visit vs. the ET visit. more low key..
they visited together.........
That's an impressive get for Iowa, and it's bigger than what people think. More importantly, he's in Indiana's backyard. Castle is in Newburgh, which is not far from Evansville...just to the east. The area is a hotbed of basketball talent.Iowa gets 2nd big man commit this weekend--Jack Nunge.
