Fantastic last couple of weeks in stroke play. Just got to figure out this match play stuff!
Great season! Match play is dumb.
Tai went -3 in the final seven holes.
Golf is a wild inconsistent game. But it’s not golf that’s the reason for this. It’s match play. I remember in like 2/4 last Illini losses they had better stroke scores as a team than their opponent but lost match play.
Hes why I didn’t want to play a GT. Wish we got OSU instead.

IMHO, they should award team championship based on final 72 hole scoring and individual awards as well. Golf is not a match play kind of sport and match play does not reward 72 hole play, just whoever gets luckiest on one day and selected individual matchups. Bogus..

Screw match play - goofy golf, I think. Something I played with a great friend (RIP) for grins and beers! (I was one up on 18th hole; he was putting to tie; it was getting very dark as he lined up his putt; I tended the flag; cheated, moved flag a foot away from cup; he didn't notice; he missed. Admitted I cheated; we laughed; all in fun. We repaired to lounge. He won, one up at last call.) So much fun.

Don't get the questions about Coach Small. Tyler was fantastic for four days. I'm not sure how his loss today is put on the matchups selected by the head coach.
I will say that the workmanlike attitude that we bring to the game, likely emphasizing the avoidance of mistakes, might be an issue. Not sure how the coach switches course, but perhaps he needs to. I'm sure there are other schools thinking the same thing so perhaps doing a tourney in the spring based on match play might be good.

Sargent just fell apart wow. Osu will probably win easily. Crazy. All lower seeds won.
Yea the only matchup decision I disagreed with was Ryan on tai. But idk if small put Ryan on him or put Ryan up and GT coach put tai on him.
Illinois does a match play tournament in January normally in Florida tinervin cup I believe it is.

Imho, the only way match play ought to be part of the National Championship is if it is part of all (or the majority) of tournaments throughout the year.
Also imho, there is no way match play ought to be part of regular tournaments throughout the year.

As an avid golfer, I believe winning stroke play by 16 strokes is a better achievement than winning match play. The current format does not reward the team that played best for 4 long rounds.
There really should be some form of title for winning stroke play. Match play is an entirely different game.
