Illinois Football Uniforms

Im in a minority here, But I love the all blue. The orange pops more with an all blue than the blue with all orange.
For the helmet, a blue helmet, orange facemask, and the arched Illini with white letters and orange outline would be beautiful.

I know in my avatar my pants and jersey are two different colors, but im not a fan. I prefer a solid color throughout at home, on the road is where I would prefer to cycle between orange and blue pants.

Also, relevant question uniforms ... did we change our color orange?? I remember a couple years ago someone linked to this site that has the RGB codes that allow you to replicate each school's colors exactly. I remember someone commenting that Illinois' orange looked really red, and I agreed. Well, while looking up those logos on this site, I noticed that in 2022 they had our Block I logo switch from a seemingly more red orange to what I would consider a more natural one:

They did it quietly over the summer in 2022 and it coincided with the "Hail to the Orange" marketing they started pushing at the same time. IIRC, part of the rebrand that brought us that reddish-orange and of course the much hated 1LL1NO1S was that the shades of orange and blue they chose were intentionally unique shades that only we were using. Very obviously there's a reason no one was using the shade of orange lol. I think now the orange matches a few smaller schools, none of which I remember off the top of my head. I also don't think the university has ever officially acknowledged making this change.

Me too homey.

I don’t think we’ll ever go to a “constant” look for uniforms. But if we did, I’d probably go with orange pants just about all the time with an orange helmet and arched “Illini”.

I’d save the all orange for a night home game and only do that once a season. For other night games or a big day game, I’d go with orange/orange/white. For most day home games, I’d stick with blue jerseys. I think blue looks great in daylight while the orange looks amazing at night under the lights. I’d save the blue pants for an important road game as I remember Michigan 1999.

Yes I agree.

Home, O/B/O
Road, O/W/O
Big Home Games, O/O/O

That way, you’re always wearing orange helmets and orange pants, the only thing that changes is the jersey color depending on the game (which is the exact combo we’ve done so far this year and it’s been excellent).

I like all of the helmets. Don’t care which one they choose, so long as it’s orange.

The orange we've settled on looked gorgeous the other night under the lights. From some angles, in tight shots, it looked almost pastel-y. Looked really sharp outlined in blue and set against the white jersey.

I love blue helmets and pants so much.

I actually like the all blue (except the helmet, I think it should always be orange). I remember the Simeon Rice era, we wore it many times and looked pretty good in all blue.

There's been a few conversations in different threads about how we can't ever purchase the on field apparel that coaches wear (which are often far cooler than the stuff we see in stores and online) and my question is is this also the case with other schools? Or is this one of those "nike doesn't care about illinois" things? I find it very hard to believe that Ohio state fans don't have 10,000x the apparel options we do and if they couldn't purchase something the coaches were wearing on the sidelines they'd march to Eugene in protest.
Does Nike A) not even think about us or B) assume we don't have enough fan support and thus not enough people buying merch to put out anything more than the most basic of options?

Since I was one of those raising that question, I'll chime in here. I can only speak for Iowa since my kid goes there (I know, I know - please don't judge. In-state tuition and a bunch of his friends going to Iowa City were a strong pull, and it's his college experience and not mine). But it's also the same there - you can't buy most of the stuff the football and basketball coaches are wearing.

I also took a flier to see if I could find the sweaters the Ohio State basketball coaches were wearing when they played at Iowa in February when I attended a game with my son. I didn't see those as well. So I think it's not anywhere close to unique for Illinois.

If you’d like to see, in real time, the stark improvement that is made by not matching jerseys and pants, just look at how much better both teams look in VT-Miami than they do in Washington-Rutgers.
Here's the visual supporting this statement. Monochrome just doesn't look as sharp as contrast, in my opinion. It's not really close.
