I don't like them either, but I saw it on the Illini Guardians form and thought I would pass along.

Not sure if these are mock ups, but the basketball jerseys on this are the actual jerseys
That has to be some kind of mock up that got reappropriated. Either something that Nike sent to us or we sent to Nike, or possibly (hopefully) something that has already been rejected. Maybe they put these out into the universe just so whatever the final version is everyone would be relieved. Gotta admit, it's gonna work on me because my standards have gotten significantly lower upon seeing these.

I think it's just some clip art they threw together, I pray that is the case.

I find it hard to believe that any seriously considered, much less approved, uniform rendering would have shoulder numbers floating in midair like this. No self-respecting professional graphic designer would submit that as a final product. It looks hacky and amateurish at best.

To me this screams MS Paint drag and drop desktop project made perhaps with the assistance of some kind of online “build your own jersey” configurator. The template on which it is based also seems very general and dated and not consistent with current Nike production forms.

FWIW I googled “football jersey template” and the first image that came up was a plain jersey configurator template that looked almost exactly like that one.

We need to abandon the font. Promising things are happening across multiple sports, and the Mizzou knock-off lettering is a sore thumb.
Agreed. The font was cool enough when we sucked and were throwing paint at the wall to spice things up. However, football should follow basketball’s lead and fully embrace throwbacks.

"Throwbacks." AKA timeless, classic designs unique to the program. No NY Giants helmets. No generic, mass-produced Nike font.

... and these from 1977-78. Gary Moeller baby! Lost the arm stripes and the elephant-tusk white stripes on the helmets.

Finally, Moeller's ultimate season in 1979. They moved toward the unis/helmets we'd have until Mackovic changed them in '89 (in his inaugural '88 season, IIRC, Mack took the "ILLINI" off the helmets so they were just blank orange.)

I wish all my Loyalty brothers and sisters a pleasant Memorial Day weekend. And profound gratitude toward those who have served in the military.

Ah, yes. 1988. Blank helmets save for the middle stripe. And Howard Griffith plowing through some unfortunate Washington State defenders, though the Cougs whooped us that day, 44-7, in the season opener.

Found a color photo of those Blackman-era unis, and a nice side shot of the helmet with Coach B in the foreground:

Thanks for the photos!

On a side (off topic) note: tell me I wasn’t the only one who wore those late 70’s vintage turf shoes as my regular shoes? I loved those things.

My pleasure; all courtesy of vintage Illio yearbooks. No GIFs back in the day!

I had completely forgotten about the fad of wearing turf shoes as everyday shoes. lol. My best friend in high school in the early '80s was all about that. As a basketball player, I stuck with the leather Converse All-Star and Pony high-tops. And the Adidas model with the rubber cap toe junior year ('82-'83).

I'd really rather forget EVERYTHING about the Moeller era.
I question the judgment and sanity of any Illini fan who doesn't. IMO those '77-'78 orange unis are absolutely nondescript and hideous. I like the '79 ones and am glad Mike White kept them.

I like the Blackman era unis better. By '79 I had actually started putting academic concerns ahead of football game attendance LOL.
