Boy I bet he was bombarded with interview requests after dropping that bombshell on sooner nation
yea!

he could be a great guy , so I wont say anything negative. But unless I'm missing something, the odds are he's going to have to lower his sights a little and try to hook up at an FCS school - with the covid rules , there are 25% more players than roster spots out there

If he was good enough to go to ou id be intrested, but moving back to Illinois from okc ivthis summer ive lost a ton of intel on ou day in day out. I’ve been really hoping we’d land sone dline/lbers/secondary guys to help immediately from what I’ve watched through 3 games

Nice to see BB keeping the pedal to the metal as far as in-state recruiting. Werner reports we offered 4 Illinois high schoolers on Sunday — 2023 DB Jyaire Hill from Kankakee, 2024 DL Justin Scott from Chicago St Ignatius, 2024 TE Grant Stec from Algonquin Jacobs and 2024 WR Cam Williams from Glenbard South. Illinois offers to first 3 are their first D1 offers, while the offer to Williams is his second Power 5 offer (Iowa was first). I know nothing about any of the players, but I like that we’re getting in early on in-state kids.

Good first steps and hopefully it eventually yields commits from some of the top guys in the state. Our highest ranked 2022 commit from Illinois is #15 in the state (Pugh). Northwestern, Iowa, OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin and Rutgers all have higher ranked recruits from Illinois than us. Northwesterm actually has three of them. That's gotta change and I'm hoping that's what we're on the way to doing.

I was over at SHG last evening in Springfield for a volleyball game and walked around the back to enter the gym on the West Campus. Just outside the equipment room, on the wall, was the Illinois poster of all the Illinois kids standing at midfield who are now playing for the O&B. Somebody is getting people's attention.

If you use the 247 rankings alone (not composite), which I think most people are starting to realize are the most accurate and up-to-date, then we have 5 top 20's. Badie at 11, Laughery 14, Pugh 16, Anderson 18, and Boyer 19. That's pretty damn good considering what we've done in-state the last few season under Lovie.

Yes, definitely an improvement. But still needs to get better. We are the flagship public university in the state and our conference rivals are getting the top kids in our back yard. Maybe that would be ok if we were returning the favor, but we're not. As I stated in my original post, I'm hopeful that we're laying the groundwork for bigger things, so we can be excited about getting top-5 in the state guys instead of top-15 in the state guys.

Particularly with top O-lineman coming out of this state… always a few top prospects.. that we never seem to get.

If I'm the staff, I try to sell the close losses as "these are Lovie's player who got him fired and we've lost 3 games by 1 score. When we get the right players, those will become wins."
That's probably what will be said. It's a shame because there was a much easier sell that was within reach to really jumpstart the rebuild.

Pat Bryant got in and did well in that last drive. Josh McCray is obviously a star in the making. I think there might be some other youngsters getting in. (Is Kirby Joseph a BB guy?)

Anyway, they can definitely sell playing time and playing opportunity.

Yes, Donovan Leary. He looks like he could be good. Also offered by VA Tech.
His brother just beat Clemson I believe, so the talent seems to run in the family.

Well I didn’t literally mean “any” was looking for more than just a name. Hope Leary is a good one.
Ok, well Dan has it set up where if you click on the name it takes you to the discussion of his announcement. You can put in a little effort. Kind of like RTFM.
