I would only do this after deleting the hundreds of articles calling him a utter waste of a draft pick.
Would have been cool to see if he was a 3rd or 4th round draft pick that a team gave some time to develop. He never appeared to be a sure-fire #1 type guy to me. He was fast. He was very productive, but he never seemed like a "stud" to me even at the UI.

I thought he had to be a guy you move around, motion him in and out of the slot, sweeps, etc. Wasn't trying to bash him at all(was fun to watch) just pointing out he is considered by many to be a bust at face value.

As always will we ever be able to recruit like Alabama, Clemson or Ohio State? Unless you are drinking too much Orange Kool aide you can believe it. I don't think sensible fans hope for so much more than we have got since Zook was here. Juice I believe was a QB wanted by top P5 schools at the time,I may be wrong about that. However if we can recruit like Wisconsin, Iowa actually almost all of the conference I think most fans will be happy especially if Wins come with it. I'm not sure that we hired BB to win a NC championship for us. His legacy will depend on winning the division we are in and getting in bowl games consistently.

It may not be a bad strategy to let the big boys recruit 4/5*s, develop them and then some will enter the portal. Recruit these portal kids - give them 2 years to develp further (and perhaps enter the NFL) AND give them great education free of cost.

That seems like the route Lovie was going for and it cost in the recruitment of a lot of HS kids

The fact is, many of the portal guys didn’t have the career they expected at their first stop. Sometimes it’s development, sometimes injury, sometimes staff turnover. But while there are many good players in the portal, most are not 4/5* guys that are going to come here and be program changers. Especially if we get our HS recruiting fixed. There is always a place for transfers, but to think you can build a program from the portal is fools gold I believe. And yes, the Lovie experience colors my view.

Most of it is being overrated due to school committed to.
