Last place by average player rating :(

This is a definite concern. Some posters on here have (correctly) been suggesting tempered frustration over lower class ranking because of smaller class numbers and decent AVG the past couple of years. But we can't go back and ignore those concerns because the staff is going to bring in more recruits this year and their class ranking is going to be better (if the player ranking doesn't improve).

Interesting. I thought coaches didn’t have much affect on where players go.

Where does it say, Sunkett is pushing for them to go to Mizzou? He just gave an update on where the kids stand and where he think they may go. If you talk to the kids Mizzou is in their top list. One has Penn State very high and the other kid has South Carolina pretty high on his list. Oregon is another school that is high on both of their list.

Coaches definitely influence their recruits but this is more Sunkett providing an inside report on where his players are leaning.
It just find it funny that sunket tweets out mizzou edits for his players but only tweets at Illinois coaches to call them out. Also not a single member of his staff logged into the ashton washington zoom meeting with bellamy.

Yeah this is a normal thing for a high school coach to do.

Can we pump the brakes on this for every in-state kid that chooses elsewhere? We don't need to goad posters if a recruit doesn't get an Illinois offer and commits elsewhere or if the staff offers and commits elsewhere.

This kid grew up a big NW fan, is from that area, he chose NW. And offering a recruit the June before his senior year is not a late offer (my guess is NW knew they could take their time on him and would have offered earlier if they felt pressure that Illinois could snag him). And this is the exact thinking that's problematic. The staff needs to be more active in the state but (emphasis added) becoming active in the state does not guarantee commitments.
I’m just sick of the narrative that Illinois doesn’t try or put forth effort with instate kids. I work in the arena of instate football and I see stuff first hand. Illinois was carsello a first P5 offer. We put forth a lot of effort into him, NW offers and snag him in 6 days. Just saying I don’t think we can justify wasting resources instate anymore.

Not a single member of his staff was invited to a zoom meeting with Ashton. How soon we forget?

Yeah that’s not true at all. They were Invited and sent the code for the call. They didn’t show. Want to know something else. Only 1 school showed up for the instate zoom call, Iroquois west was the only school that showed up.

I speak with the staff almost every day. I don't have to make anything up. I was just with Coach Sunkett last night.

How about this tweet?

I am legit wondering. How are we shut out of there right now?

Okay so what is his beef then? Is he shoving his FCS prospects to Mizzou too or was that just Illinois? Illinois does not just cut ties with ESL for no reason.

There is no beef. That is my point. There is no underlying issue. Kids chose other schools. Jimbo visited ESL more than Lovie did. Pretty simple.

Okay then ask him why Iroquois west showed up to the instate zoom call and he didn’t. Also ask him why he has never tweeted out a single pro illini edit for a player but has done it 3 times for mizzou. I just think you are too close to see things for how they really are.

Also...why would IW get an invite and ESL not unless there is beef?

If only one school showed up there has to be a disconnect somewhere. Out of 500 plus high schools in Illinois, only one show up? Who are we kidding. May just be results of hiring a Texas person to improve relations with Illinois Coaches. Not saying anything negative, just pointing out facts. If I took a job in Texas I wouldn't know where to start. Part of the process.

Not doubting the disconnect in state at all. Especially the Chicago area. There is a reason Illinois is stepping back from the state and going to FL, GA, and TX. Didn't Mizzou offer Powell too? Also, I wanted an in state coach in Washingtons position as well.

According PIF, They did get an invite.
The invites were sent to all Illinois coaching staffs/AD's. Sunket and his staff got an invite they didn't show. IW was the only in-state school that logged into the zoom meeting. Also Illinois has gotten 1 out of 12 kids from ESTL that they offered. Is that a good return on investment? Sunket can give whatever quote or eyewash that he wants, but actions speak louder then words.
