Come on, we’re trying to talk the guy of the ledge.
I’m not on the ledge. I actually love the Florida flavor of this class. But let’s hold the ticker tape parade until we’re above the carp of the Big Ten.

Well this thread is off the rails. I'll check in a few days. Too many posters accused of being misinformed.
Agree. Send it to a chat room or go rent a gym and beat on each other. Let's change the direction of the forum, please

I actually think speed is what we are missing. Lovie's cover two asks for the back 7 to cover a lot of ground to be effective especially from the Mike and the secondary. Even on the DL it is more about speed through the gap and disruption to help the back 7 make plays on poorly thrown/timed balls. Basically speed makes our defense go, and getting more is going to make us better.

We'll never be super stout against the run and we will bleed yardage, but TOs are the key and our defensive stats will reflect TO margin and offensive possession.
Stoutness against the run comes from big powerful defensive tackles. So strength coaches and size at that position along with good coaching can change that. We need to hit the weight room... and I mean not just fake strength from taking supplements to get the look, but real hard earned strength...

Can we pump the brakes on this for every in-state kid that chooses elsewhere? We don't need to goad posters if a recruit doesn't get an Illinois offer and commits elsewhere or if the staff offers and commits elsewhere.

This kid grew up a big NW fan, is from that area, he chose NW. And offering a recruit the June before his senior year is not a late offer (my guess is NW knew they could take their time on him and would have offered earlier if they felt pressure that Illinois could snag him). And this is the exact thinking that's problematic. The staff needs to be more active in the state but (emphasis added) becoming active in the state does not guarantee commitments.
I believe becoming relevant in state and elsewhere is what matters most in gaining ground in state and out period! Northwestern had been more relevant in these kids history than Illinois has been. So to them we're bottom feeders and they look down on us. We are starting to change that with the play on the field and it started by first getting a HUGE name first in this state in coach Lovie Smith.

So DD is announcing on July 6th. Chevy brenson is supposedly close to a decision. Looks like we are pushing hard for a couple committed guys. I hope we can get close to about 15 commits by the end of july. Also I’m certain when visit open back up we’re gonna see some of our guys take visits to other places, along with us trying to get some guys committed elsewhere on campus. Name to keep a eye out for is jakiah leftwhich (currently commited to GT).

I do wonder how the staff is playing the game this year. Years past, I believe story was, once you are committed, that’s it, no looking around.
Seems like earlier this year, that continued, to their detriment. I don’t know if that plan has been adjusted, and now are expecting Some decommitts, or these are pretty solid verbals. Hope the latter.

Some will be solid and some won’t. I think schools that have taken a lot of commits early (Tennessee, Boston college, Georgia tech) will have more decommits because they are gonna try and push some kids out.

I would agree definitely if there are no camps/ no senior tape.
I was thinking with No senior tape/camps, players may be content to have a spot, harder to switch. But after thinking about it, you may be right. Staffs most interested/ effort should be able to turn a recruit, not much different than normal.
