A 12:30 Pacific time start is a 2:30 Central time start, so Illinois could stay on more of a Central time schedule. The best benefit of leaving on Thursday is really to have a full day to get the travel funk out of everyone’s systems following a long flight.
I once had to make a quick trip to the U.K. to observe an experimental manufacturing process being trialed just after midnight in England. I deliberately stayed on CST the entire time and returned home w/o jet lag. Time in the low oxygen plane can be tiring, but going a day early should take care of it.
