Fun observation from the game - Reggie Love spent a lot of time wearing (what looked like) a headset while standing on the end of the sideline during Illini offensive drives, looking directly at our play callers.
Hey, that was just Walters giving Reggie a tryout for the interim Defensive Coordinator position so he could take over the offense and have someone to fire afterwards when Purdue gave up 50. *snickers*

It's not uncommon for a coach to have a former player on an opponent help do game prep. But yeah, putting a player in that situation forcing him to try calling plays live is a dirtbag move. You're the coach, you should have enough info to make those calls yourself if the opponent is stupid enough to have not changed plays and signs from the previous season. Forcing a kid to do it who probably has some mixed feelings about the game anyways is low and quite frankly insulting. And while I understand winning at all costs, putting a college kid in that position just goes against the unwritten code of how to coach and raise young men. That's some Beckman level clownery there.

A win is a win …

We’ve got a lot to clean up …

We’ve got some guys who we’re gonna really have to try and get healthy quick …

Altmyer … Keep doing your thing kid …

Josh McCray … One tough dude … Love seeing that guy do well …

Oh yeah … Ryan Walters … Since I know you’ll be reading this later … We standing on business over here … So you can take all that nonsense and all the talking and all the pretending you don’t know what you did today back with you to Purdue along with that fat L … You’re a bum in my book …

I-L-L …

Having some depth added to the levels of Walters' chicanery and general douchebag-ery kind of flavors this game a bit differently for me, and helps me to savor the victory even more.

All things considered, I think this was a weird game on many levels (in a sport which, as some have correctly identified, can be very wacky), and I hope it's proven to be more of an aberration than any real regression. Time will tell.

A win is a win. The offense carried the team to a win today. If the offense didn’t come out we would’ve lost that game today. The defense looked pretty bad. Some blown coverages. However, there were a few breaks that didn’t go our way towards the end of regulation. Purdue wouldn’t have came back and taken the lead if atleast one of them worked out. The first one was the interception missed by Rosiek and the second one was the interception missed by Bailey. Missing Xavier Scott was huge. He would’ve had atleast one or two interceptions today. You can tell our secondary just isn’t as good when he’s not out there.

That was possibly the best way to beat Purdue and Walters. Get them sky high and excited that they're going to pull off the huge upset then pull the rug out from under them at the end. Love it!

No, it wasn’t. They are horrible. That was incredibly deflating. They scored 7 points against Notre dame, 10 against Nebraska, and 6 against Wisconsin. They dropped a 50 spot on us on our field with their back up qb. I’m still dumbfounded.

100% when you play a team as bad as Purdue you want to put them away early. That’s what good teams do. We could’ve rested starters late in the game and got some guys game reps.

The defensive performance yesterday was embarrassing.

I can usually play devil’s advocate on almost any topic, but going for 2 from the 18 is beyond me.
In your scenario, Illini kick extra point to go up 13 with 5 minutes to play. Purdue then scores 14 to go up 1 with 40 seconds to play. If we lose in that scenario (which is likely) then you say “why kick meaningless extra point to go up 13 and lose by 1”

Would the last 0:46 Illini drive have played out differently whether it was 43-40 or 42-41 when it started?

This right here.

A lot of the stuff coming out of PU feels like such insecure “little brother syndrome”

Bret totally knew Walters was going to go for two at the end and he was ready for it and we blew them up

Fresno state doing for to bc they have the chance to beat a B1G on the road makes sense. PU doing it just feels well kinda desperate.

It was about zero degrees on an early December game. Fresno State just wanted to get back to Fresno as quick as they could.

39 rushes for 177 yards, 4.5 ypc, not world beating but not awful. Laughery and Valentine got nothing going but Mccray was solid finding some spaces to get through.
Well, to be fair, 10 attempts and 60 yards came from Altmyer, and 2 attempt and 10 yards came from Bryant.

When we ran plays designed for running with our backs, we averaged 3.96 ypc. I don't feel like that's all too great.
