Illinois 21, Michigan 7 Postgame

First win over them since 2009 so I say it’s fine
Agree. I am against rushing the field or the court in general (fans belong in stands), but since that isn’t the norm in college sports nothing wrong with it here today. We don’t beat Michigan every year and not even every decade if that stat is right. They are the defending champs and ranked this year. And it was a special day with all the festivities. Well within the acceptable parameters for a silly tradition.

Considering our lack of offensive production. Luke running for his life and portraying Grange. We had some serious vibes and timely good plays. Coaches have got to call a better game plan. We should have put +30 up today with turnovers. Strange calls at certain times and field positions really slowed us down. Won't work next week in Eugene.
I will take this win and celebrate a wonderful day. Thank you CBS for going with our Illini production and pitching in on national TV.. Very well done by all involved.

I agree. The crazy thing is that if we do lose to Oregon, and we somehow manage to beat everyone else, it’s possible that at the end of the regular season (before conference Championship games), it’s possible that our only two losses would be to the, at that time (conference champ week), #1 and #2 teams in the country.

And to continue this thought.... This would mean tOSU probably finishes 10-2 as well, with losses to PSU and Oregon. Our resume would be extremely similar to tOSU's in that situation.

Shouldn't the flyover have been one of those planes that you have to spin the propeller by hand to start?

This board knows I'm no Lunney fan. I mean, the fourth and goal play call was abysmal.

But.

You win and you call that fake punt? All is forgiven at that point. Just win.

I’m very pro-rushing the field (I find it an awesome tradition and not silly), and I’m all in all not too worked up about this storm.

Purdue last week, though? A bit embarrassing, haha.

I have noticed on multiple occasions (both for and against us), guys have been down WELL inside the 1, but they always tend to spot the ball right on the 1. Is there direction to the refs to place the ball on the 1 if there is any doubt on the exact spot?
This is one of the key points, there are multiple reasons for the ineptitude. Honest (I presume) mistakes like the 4-yard miss, and conscious decisions to place the ball on a yard marker for expediency, both in that play and for ease of chain marking or ball return after an incomplete pass.

Both should be better but rarely are.

Today was the most intense atmosphere at Memorial Stadium since 2002 when UI took OSU to overtime (and lost).

This crowd was into it and screaming from the start. Illinois seemed to be in control for most of the game but I was waiting for the ceiling to cave in like in previous seasons.

Illinois started driving nails in the coffin when UM failed to score a TD late in the third quarter to get the game within one score. UI blocked the field goal. All that long, time consuming drive for no points.

What a great day. Next week is a tall order, but I feel like there is more than a glimmer of hope next week.

This was filmed Friday during the rededication ceremony, wait to the end..
JW called it.

He is starting to establish himself as among the greatest AD in Illinois history. Certainly in my lifetime only Neale Stoner was as good for rebuilding and general program success. Whitman is probably better when considering all the facilities upgrading he’s also been able to accomplish with the Trustees.
