Illini Women's Basketball 2024-2025

Media day and if kid has already told Shaun’s she’s announcing tomorrow, no harm in mentioning.
Didn’t mean to imply harm, just interested in how different it appeared to me. Media day would explain it. I think on social media coaches tend to have more fun with it,

I enjoy listening to Coach Green and am looking forward to the season, especially the opener vs. Florida State. My biggest concern from the press conference was Lety's “not being healthy.” I hope it is not a medical issue, but in most cases, it is code for a significant orthopedic injury (ACL, etc.). We could use her this year to add some size to a small front line.

And neither will I be disappointed. In fact, I'd be ecstatic! We need some size, we need some International flair, bring her in!!! I'd love to develop a Brazilian/South American pipeline !!! A top 100 4 star 6'3" player is exactly what we need to keep building the program.

Illini women's basketball land Australian wing Erica Finney

The 6-foot-1 wing from Australia is the second commitment in the 2025 class, joining five-star guard Destiny Jackson from Whitney Young in Chicago.
Green and Co. remain in the mix for several top-100 recruits in the 2025 class, including the likes of center Layla Hays (Wasilla, Alaska), wing Naomi Benson (Streetsboro, Ohio) and point guard Addi Mack (Eden Prairie, Minn.). Four-star 2025 forward Manuella Alves-Fernandez (Kissimmee, Fla.) also made an official visit to the Illinois campus earlier this week.

I think Parchment could be the last '25 commit of this cycle. We might now back off on Naomi Benson and Manuella Alves-Fernandez, or Parchment's commitment causes them to look elsewhere.

I look at our roster outlook and think that for 2025-26 we could only be looking to add via transfer portal another ballhandler and possibly another F/C. Upper class, one-year transfers at both spots could be logical. Obviously won't fully know till the end of this season.

Projected 2025-26 (my classifications):
Point Guard/Ballhandler (1): FR Destiny
Guard/Wing (5): JR Gretchen, JR Cori, JR Brown-Hagger, SO Berry, FR Finney
Forward (3): SR Shay, SO Noya Catoira, FR Cearah
Center (2): JR Lety, SO Hayven

Anyone think we keep pushing for class of 2025 high school recruits?

If she’s following the Underwood playbook, she will keep pushing for them all.

If Shauna is able to recruit well and build a B10 champion program at Illinois there is no reason for her to go elsewhere. Taking over at a WBB blue blood that was build by somebody else only puts you in somebody elses shadow. Unless she badly wants to move back to IA I think we are safe. JMO. She is a midwesterner so chance of being hired to SEC or school in TX is low. I think Jay would match $$$ for anybody trying to poach her. She was at Dayton for 6 seasons despite making NCAA 3 times in first 4 years so I am confident she had opportunities to move earlier.

Illinois badly managed opportunity when they lost JM and BS. Mackovic got a 50% raise going to Texas which is a historical football power - Illinois did not try to outbid them. Oklahoma native Bill Self got major raise, joined blue blood where he had been an assistant coach, He took over a 30-8 team that lost in NCAA finals year before. Illinois did not try to outbid KS.

Shauna is 11th highest paid WBB coach. big drop off after NCAA champes Mulkey, Geno and Staley.

That's an impressive commitment to the program. It also shows that no one, other than a couple programs, is going to outbid us by millions. Seems easier to match another offer if it's only a couple hundred thousand/half a million above what we are already paying.

Brad's recruiting has been cooking and now Shauna's is baking.
