Is the back 9 a lot easier than the front? Or are we just that good?

yesterday the front was easier scoring average wise, today it looks closer. we tied for the best back of the day yesterday -3 as a team.

And a lot of praise for coach Small ..
As per usual. Right on.

I'm not complacent about this Illinois golf program. But I think there's a foundation now for continued success down the road. Marrion, freshman, looks great. But we shall see. Jackson gone or does he get a fifth year? Lotsa talent at Illinois.

Illinois women were doing okay at their tournament in KY. I look forward to volunteering and watching them at Medinah in October.

The Illini are playing now pulling off the comeback win to start the year would be nice .
Doesn’t look good, Alabama is killing it and we’re just playing ok. But we should secure a solid 2nd place and that would still be a great result beating a lot of talented highly ranked teams.

Great start to the season for sure. 'bama finished so strong, getting a -7 final round out of their 5 man (at least for this tourney who knows where he is talent wise) is impressive. Counting all 5 guys in relation to par we had a the lowest score in the tourney, but that is not how you score these. Contributions from everybody this tourney, just faltered a bit as a team in the middle of the back 9. Love the depth and this team looks to me to be a force.

The consistency of play throughout this program over the years is simply amazing. I remember thinking when Detry had a particularly great season with low scores about 10 years ago that man we wont see another guy like that for a while. Turns out every year now we have somebody like that, whether it was feags or Hardy or Charlie or tommy or Dylan or AdC and so on and so forth...now it is Jackson and next it is Max and then it will be Marrion. It is absurd what Small has done here over the years and he turned things around immediately 25 years ago, but he has even gone to another level the last decade. Last year we finished the season the number 6 ranked team in the nation, Two years ago we finished the season as the number 1 ranked team in the nation, these are incredibly lofty numbers, we are smack dab in the middle of true golden generation of an Illinois sporting program and man is awesome to focus on it.

looks like Trey Marrion is our next star too
Awesome thread.

I can say the other freshman are talented as well, bringing a lot to the table. So the future looks bright. The qualifying was no joke.

Trey will definitely give it his all each time he tees it up and is excited to learn from the best. They have a devoted, determined hard worker in this kid. He is focused and wanted to be with the best to learn from.

But I am biased as I spent the last 18 years supporting him LOL :)

Welcome, I hope you become a fan of all Illini sports! Following U of Illinois golf has been a lot of fun all these years. Coach Small does a great job and he has provided a consistently top level program for the players, the school, and the fans. I'm sure this was a key part of Trey's decision to come here!

Illini Nation welcomes you, your son, and the rest of your family. Not only is Coach Small awesome, but so is the Illinois fan base. When you wear Orange with Illini on it at meets, you’ll soon see! #FamILLy

Sorry, what's wrong with Illini navy blue with orange Illini on it? I happen to love blue more than orange. Let's discuss.

Kidding.

Go ILLINI!
