Yeah, not seeing how this is any different than the old days. You had a salary cap then, which was the value of a scholarship. Any cap now just has money going back under the table - but over or under, the amount of money will be the market value of the players.

There are actually 5 sacks this season so far: 1 each against Eastern and Kansas (big sack-fumble to end game) and 3 against CMU.

But you are completely ignoring the turnovers forced:

6 interceptions and 3 fumbles recovered, and a +8 turnover margin through 3 games (all while allowing fewer than 9 points per game).

The defense has shown weaknesses in the run game, but overall, it has produced very well. There is naturally work to do, but your post is highly misleading.
