Wow GMan we are in pretty good shape when we can only worry about KJ's jump shot mechanics. If they go in, do not over think it. I really like the talent upgrade on this team.
I'm not criticizing. At the end of the day, all I care about is if he makes them. Just curious if this is considered good form or not because I don't know.

I love being slept on. If this team gels, we gonna be goooooood. Keep sleepin’ on us.

Sorry, forgot to specify that he has Illinois at 8 in his preseason B1G rankings.

Boy...7 TOs is way too much.

I know judging him entirely based off of these games would be quite foolish...and I'm not doing that...but 7 TOs is a lot. And he's had about 4 or 5+ TOs in a lot of these other games too. Might be some factors involved: team's being able to zone in on him a lot, having to shoulder a lot of the ball handling duties, spacing isn't ideal, etc...

But he is putting up around 15+, 5+, 5+ in about every game though so...🤷‍♂️

It should be said they did win the game and beat Spain and Marco Gonzales, who is really good

KJ had three bad turnovers in the last couple of minutes when Spain was pressing - and it wasn’t his best game, but lots to be excited about for him this year

Kasparas is going to turn the ball over. Don't focus on # of turnovers. He's going to have a very high usage rate. Domask turned it over quite a bit sometimes. Oh well. When you're playing 35 minutes and handling the ball all game, 2.3 turnovers really isn't a problem. Kasparas seems likely to turn it over more, though. But Domask averaged 2.9 the year before he joined Illinois.

Don’t see a world where a Brad coached team with this much talent from top to bottom finishes 8th in the B1G.
Yes Illinois is being underrated once again. No respect for Brad and the program he has built. Last year we barely made the top 25 in the first poll with two all Big10 players returning, one first team. With a lot of experienced transfers coming in they said we would finish around the middle of the conference. This year while we have very little returning we do have quite a few transfers with D1 playing experience, some in P5 conferences. Combine that with the highly rated recruits we have coming in we arguably have the most talented team Brad has ever assembled. Just about any other school whose coach doesn't have the track record of Brad or his ability would be a preseason top ten team if they had this roster. Yes you can say we have to see how they gel and can't just rate them by their potential but I see it every year. Some school gets ranked in the top 15 just based on their unproven recruits and then isn't in the top 25 at the end of the year and barely makes the tournament. It's time for them to give Brad the same respect they give Painter and Izzo.

I guess some people just feel better about themselves when they can find fault with someone else. This kid at times is their entire offense. He has the ball in his hands constantly. He had 3 bad turnovers when Spain was pressing and the world is coming to an end. This kid is gonna be a 1st team all big 10 player...can't wait for season to start

I'm not a huge fan of the first & second thing in every new thread, but pretty sure @Big Jack was (correctly) stating he was fourth, in the fifth post.

If there is some deeper sub-joke I am missing, my apologies and please continue with your normal threading.

The low preseason ranking can be a positive if it puts a chip on our shoulder. We're going to need that chip against the doozy of a non-conference schedule that we have.

In 2023 Kansas was preseason #1, (Andy Katz) was a 4 seed in the tournament and lost in second round
in 2023 Duke was preseason #2 (Andy Katz) was a 4 seed in the tournament and lost in the third round
In 2023 Michigan State was preseason #3 (Andy Katz) was 9 see in the tournament and lost in the second round

Pre-Season Rankings are not very accurate

Totally agree. But they are remarkably consistent in which groups of teams are over - rated and under - rated annually; i.e. Kansas, Duke, Mich St., Kentucky, even Indiana, etc. consistently over - rated and IL in the group consistently under - rated. Pretty clear annual exhibit of so called "experts" unwillingness, or inability, to do a modicum of research and analysis of the subject they are paid to opine about.

IMO no chance Kasparas plays 35 minutes a game. Maybe a game or two but the exception not the norm.

If we're talking about the AP poll (the only poll that really matters), Illinois is treated pretty favorably by the voters. We are 12th all time in AP points.

We're also quick to forget about years like 2023, 2010, or 2009 when Illinois is ranked in the preseason and then drops out by February.

The AP poll is more accurate than we give it credit for, too. Historically, most teams that make it to the Sweet 16 were ranked in the preseason AP poll, which is impressive if you think about it. 350+ teams and more often than not, the best teams in March and April come from the subset of 25 that the AP poll identified in November.
