Updated - Will Riley No. 19 in both 247 and 247 composite in 2024 class.

So the final ranking lookover for Riley...

On3 industry - #30, 4 star (???)
On3 - #12, 5 star
Rivals - #12, 5 star
247 composite - #19, 5 star
247 - #19, 5 star

The fact that we're getting a damn near consensus five star recruit...I mean...it hasn't happened for like the last two decades at all...

Special.

Just hope it all comes together well for him...sky is truly the limit...

I think the "struggling" will come early, as the team chemistry appears and these guys gel. All the November games should sort a lot of this out. Just watch out for this team come December!

I suspect it has more to do with experience, continuity, and the strength of the middle of the conference (road games in the B10, ya know?) than coaching.

There are 15 Big Ten teams in his top 51.
Right, but at the end of the day the model is predicting that our coaching staff is only capable of a 16-win season out of an INCREDIBLY talented roster, per this metric.

I don't think it's that much of a slight - it's basically just predicting which games we will be favored in - he has us:
Home - favored in all of our home games, seems fair
Neutral - 2-2 in these games winning the Missery and Ark games, losing to Alabama and Duke, which seems reasonable
Away - only favored in 2 away games - Minny and Washington, this is probably right on paper but would hope we pull out more road wins than that

Keep in mind there will be 4 more likely home games that will be very winnable yet to hit the schedule, so if it's a 20-11 season T is projecting, that sounds fair enough with the hope that we can do better than that.

Kasparas Jakucionis, Illinois 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard will return home to Lithuania before playing in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket from July 27-Aug. 4 in Tampere, Finland
Until he leaves, though, he'll keep working at Ubben Basketball Complex in advance of the 2024-25 season. Work that's impressed the Illinois coaching staff.
"Kasparas has been off the charts," Illini coach Brad Underwood said. "You can see his talent. He’s been maybe better than what I thought in terms of some areas of finishing. The size hasn’t bothered him."

I would imagine that this model weights known factors much higher than unknown. The fact that all of our primary contributors are from Europe, freshmen, or sophomore transfers, we have a lot of unknowns. Super high ceiling, but it's hard to determine a real floor for this team as well.

It's not predicting anything about our coaching staff. We play 3 ridiculously difficult non-conference games. That's 3 predicted losses. And then assuming 12-8 in conference. Torvik is really predicting we finish 20-11.

That's a reasonable prediction for our team, given its lack of experience playing together. We've seen this happen to Kentucky and other talented teams so it's not out of the realm of possibility to struggle a bit, especially on the road in the Big Ten.

We saw it with Illinois just a couple years ago. Granted, that team's ceiling was probably lower than this one.

247's composite ranking emphasizes their own ratings over others, but just a funny coincidence that Riley is our highest rated recruit since Dee and they both landed on #19 on the "consensus" ratings.

IMO this '24-25 Illini team won't struggle and will be contending in every game. Boswell, Jacucionis, Ivisic and Rodgers will not fail us. If Riley, Johnson, Humrichous, White, Booth and Gibbs-Lawhorn play to their ability and potential, Illini will easily exceed all conservative expectations. I trust in Brad to mold them into a team. Haven't looked so forward to a season since '04-05. To think Fears or Jasper Johnson might join this team is an embarrassment of riches. Holy moly.

Really looking forward to seeing him match up against some of the other top euro pgs again.

& DGL missing altogether
Well, it's a top 10 player projection, and Illinois has 11 viable players to rotate. Player 11 you could debate, but it could be DGL, it could be Jake Davis, it could be Carey Booth maybe.

How would you rank the top 10 players on the roster this year? Here's what I'm thinking so far:

1. KJ
2. Will Riley
3. Kylan Boswell
4. Morez Johnson
5. Ben Humrichous
6. Ty Rodgers
7. Tre White
8. Tomislav Ivisic
9. Carey Booth
10. DGL
11. Jake Davis
12. Jason Jakstys (who will likely redshirt)

Now don't take this wrong. This is just my opinion. BUT... Could care less about Torvik but I get it and looked at the metrics. He has Loosierks in the 30's. Heh, thought they were the favs? 16-11. Don't think so. I still think we are still to low. Experience.? No, not as much as last year but we have enough. Can't count either Ivisic or Katmandoo as freshmen although they are. They have been playing with men for the most part. Especially Ivisic. Our other freshmen, Morez is a dog. They don't get counted. The main thing WILL be chemistry. I think Underwood is the Best coach in the BIG. I'm talking right now.
I like this. Let's remember also that Boswell, White and Rodgers are juniors; plenty of experience there. Not to mention Ben, a senior. This is actually not a young team; just don't know each other. Yet.

At what point of the season does this ranking pertain to?
