Torvik predictions are up. Ranked 17th. Talent level is second only to UCONN. Projects 16-11 record, though, because of lack of experience.
I know Torvik uses a formula, and when you do that, you need to just post the results without subjective tinkering with the final product. I also understand that a brand new roster can have hiccups along the way. With that said...

To believe that we have the second most talented (on paper) team in the nation and then to say that THIS staff will take that and turn it into a 16-11 record is pretty crazy, lol.

Is there anybody else on this board who remembers the Judson twins in the middle '50s? Or am i the lone ranger?
I have vague memories... They came from Hebron in north eastern Illinois. Smallest high school to ever win the one class state tourney, in ( think) 1952. School had a total of well under a hundred students. The Illinois version of 'Hickory' from Hoosiers. Had a couple of other good players as well

yes, and Hebron predated Bobby Plump and Milan (ind.) by a couple of years. In addition to the Judson twins Hebron had a 6-11 center. The high school had far fewer than 100 students. Even today the town's water tower is painted like a basketball.

Now that Riley is in Champaign (I think) whats the prognosis on Tomi? Is it a visa issue or a transcript/university issue?

Love to have them all together so that the refiner's fire can begin melding them into a team.

Watch the Bardo tape on the flyin'illini and how their practices were run.

It's astonishing how in 2024 with all the talk of AI and big data that college basketball modeling can't handle foreign players.

The current Torvik top 10 Illinois player projections are...umm...interesting.

Predicts Boswell to be our leading scorer while only projecting KJ to average 3 points per game, which is absurd. Also looks to be too bullish on Ty Rodgers with him averaging 13 and 7.

Go to Crandall’s for the AYCE broasted chicken. True small-town country “chicken place” experience. Eat like a pig for the cost of one drink downtown.

That's largely the issue, there's no readily available data to project foreign players. Data isn't stored as carefully and typically there's not a central source for that game data.

You're absolutely right. Absurd is the right word. In both cases.

I suspect it has more to do with experience, continuity, and the strength of the middle of the conference (road games in the B10, ya know?) than coaching.

There are 15 Big Ten teams in his top 51.

This Illinois team is supremely talented.

Where they differ from last year’s team is they now have the full range of skill sets.

Get them to play together, jell as a unit, and they’re a top 10 team again at a minimum.

Last year’s team had two superstars, Shannon & Domask, and a bunch of very good role players.

What made last year’s team special was their age and their chemistry.

But they didn’t have a true point guard, even though Domask filled the role quite nicely, and they couldn’t defend the paint.

This year, we go a legit two deep at every position with players who perfectly fit the position they’ll be playing. And we have a few NBA first round talents.

Where we might struggle is in our youth and lack of cohesiveness due to so many new players.

Can’t wait to see what happens.

No way Ty has more rebounds per usage than Morez.
