It shouldn’t be limited to only students, but it isn’t exactly clear on who the policies would apply to.
Considering the krush sits behind the opposing bench I would assume a couple of them are responsible for this. I feel this letter should of been more internal. Heckling is apart of an a road team atmosphere, I don’t feel like crying on twitter over some curse words is warranted enough to get an AD involved. Parents just don’t teach their kids how to be tough anymore apparently. If any particular fan is that bad they can easily kick them out and ban them on a case by case basis and it’s always been that way.

Telling someone to kill themselves, as what happened against Iowa, is crossing a line. Whether it's a kid or an adult fan, that needs to be stopped. It was also made public and so the DIA needed to respond publicly.

The letter said nothing about stopping chanting (like "safety school") or booing, but curbing the more vile comments. There's nothing wrong with that.

This letter was needed, being called out by students and their parent multiple times is an embarrassment for the university and the fans. As our AD said, there is a fine line and it's been crossed 2 too many times now (and I'm sure many more). I'm glad the university is taking this seriously, and doing anything they can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

This likely happens at every game across all sports by some idiot fan in that particular crowd, so is our AD going to apologize for the last 50 years of fan behavior at assembly hall? Sometimes you just need to sit on it because there’s not much you can do to control what people say. Like I said just kick them out and ban them and be done with it. The letter doesn’t do a lot of good when it likely reaches less than 1% of our fan base anyways.

Literally what this letter is saying will happen from now on.
And to the first part, if a player or their parents say it crossed the line, then it crossed the line, no questions asked. The past doesn't justify the present, I hope we can be better than the last 50 years.

It’s always been happening in the nba and college ect as far as people being kicked out and banned, that’s my whole point. I just feel like this is a bail out letter to avoid scrutiny from the vocal minority.

Andre back uninjured. Hopefully can nail the mid range jumper.

Brandin, RJ and Luke with a years experience and strength.

Dain has handles too. He can bring it up the floor. Impressive.

I don't know when the last time you went to games but that kind of stuff has never been acceptable behavior and did not use to be a common occurrence at college games. It's on the same level as using racial slurs to tell someone to kill themselves. Good natured heckling is one thing but the level of anger and nastiness has definitely been getting worse over the last several years. Behaviors that you would only see online are crossing over into real life. There needs to be pushback and I applaud Whitman for being public about it.

Agreed. You can be pretty loud and annoying without crossing into "kill yourself" terroritory. That's not fandom, that's being a vile @sshole.

More example of "not a good look" or at least something that makes you go hmmm was the video I caught a few games back where the Krush's opposing team free throw intimidation tactic is for a bunch of them to shotgun a can of beer...

Not sure how that's supposed to disrupt an opposing free throw shooter and it's just a wack idea for a student section "tactic." Especially compared to something creative like ASU's curtain thing they do and some others I've seen.

I’m not talking specifically about the killing someone comment, more so the getting cursed out Whitman put in his letter. That’s a given at any sporting event and if the stars of Iowa and OSU can’t handle it they will fail miserably in the nba when they get it night in and night out.

Did you read it? Doesn’t seem like it. That or you just want to complain about something.

#219
Yeah it was emailed to me, why I came here to complain about it.
Then you must have missed this part:

“Student-athletes and coaches expect to be heckled by opposing fans. This is a tradition of sport and is something we celebrate in State Farm Center and Memorial Stadium: the opportunity to create an advantage in your home venue based, in part, on how uncomfortable the home team's fans can make an opponent. As a rule, make it hard, but don't make it hurt.”

To be fair, he had to say something given the earlier response when Kofi was getting online harassment. Gotta set a standard and stick to it.

That said, he also did seem to make it clear that he understands the difficulty of identifying the line and what’s too far, so I think it would behoove all of us to not judge anyone unless we directly heard something, in which case, why didn’t you do anything in the moment?

Our AD is doing what he has to. Agree with it or not, he really had no choice but to say something before the Big Ten tried to come at us for some bogus violation out of it. So he had to make it clear to the public that we don’t support stuff like that. And to be fair, I’m sure he doesn’t. But yes, fans everywhere cross the line. Doesn’t mean ADs everywhere would do nothing if it started getting aired to the public.

Rodgers can too!....looking like we might have a lot of players that can initiate offense...do we have enough shooters and rebounders?

The problem with Belo's jump shooting is from the waist down, not the actual shooting motion. He often kicks his legs after his jump and you don't really ever see that from a good shooter -- it's a straight body moving straight up and down. I think that also helps explain the difference between his jump shooting and his free throw shooting. I don't have stats to back this up but it seems like most of his makes from 3 this year have been on wide open kick outs, where he barely has to jump to get off his shot.
All true…in regards to the straight up and down philosophy of a jumpshot. That’s definitely a conventional wisdom kind of thing…

Well…with the possible exception of Jay Burson that is…who often tended to: float forward, or even float sideways …Jay also did have a little bit of a leg kick near the time of release- a bit like Curbelo’s

Burson obviously had a wide assortment of shots …sometimes a double-clutching Maravich-inspired floater…or a Cousy-like runner where he went off of…and usually landed on one foot.

Interestingly, on his free-throws he tended to place his FRONT right foot WAY in front of the other…favoring that over a wider base with the front toe slightly in front-like most shooters prefer. But, then again everything about that dude was an anomaly. Somebody stop me…I could talk about Jay Burson’s jump shot all day.

Don’t think shooting or rebounding will be the problem. Losing defensive guys like Kofi, Trent, and DMW will be the issue. Belo and Hawk are good but just don’t see the Kofi replacement. The scheme will have to change.

I think there's something else to take into consideration as well- alcohol. It's fairly new in the venue's, and it's apparent that some people can't hold their booze. I took my son to a game in early December, and we enjoyed the pre-game atmosphere. There were many folks partaking in refreshing beverages, while my son chased down errant shots and high-fived players. The folks around us were great- they chatted my son up and helped ensure he had a great time. However, a few of these people had completely different demeanors after half. I wasn't too concerned about the swearing, as belligerent as it sounded, but I was appalled when one of them let slip the N word. Our section got quiet very quickly, and it didn't happen again. But it still happened. And the person wasn't a student. He was a middle-aged season ticket holder (and by all appearances, a very good person until he had too much to drink).

I'm not opposed to alcohol in the stadiums. I enjoy it. But these things will be more prevalent and noticeable in the SFC than they will across the street.
