Chicago White Sox 2024

Media reports say that the Minnesota Twins could be for sale. The franchise has been valued at nearly $1.5 billion.

Any sale of any MLB franchise has to affect the future of the White Sox. Not only is the Sox future in Chicago in doubt without a new stadium plan coming sooner rather than later... but whether outside-of-Chicago interests who want to buy a historic South Side MLB franchise might wave that kind of (Twins) money or more at the current Sox ownership family.

Maybe Nashville (lots of money there)... maybe somewhere else. But there are plenty of guys who have made a fortune of money in recent years who might want to buy a new toy for themselves. All that money is no good to them unless they find something fun to buy with it.

At this point in time... the Twins overall franchise is in a much healthier condition than our beloved Sox.

Plenty of people with money find more productive and important things to do than buy toys.

And … the Sox brand itself ought to be worth more than $1.5 billion.

Mixed emotions about the hurricane damage to Tropicana in Tampa. It's a bad baseball stadium. If the Sox are moved to Nashville, the Rays could mov

Rate and become the Chicago Devil Sox. Take that irony Jerry Reinsdorf. Eventually dropping the Devil and picking a new color ... probably not Black.

Jerry did not pay anywhere near $1.5 billion for the toy he is playing with. He is playing with house money.

Reinsdorf open to selling the Sox……hope we all like country music.

What he decides to do in selling the Sox (and to WHO) will demonstate to all whether or not he truly hates White Sox fans. If the Sox leave the South Side then MLB will be dead to me. Won't have to worry about a 'rebuild' because there's nuthin' to rebuild any more...

This is purely a ruse to try to bilk taxpayer money for a new stadium.

it’s not going to work . he did it in 1988, but it won’t happen this time .

Does any Chicago Mayor (the current one or the next one) want on his or her record to be the one when Chicago lost a legacy MLB baseball franchise? They will lean like hell on Springfield and The Chicago Media to give The Owner what he wants, wouldn't they? Or does Chicago already think it's just a North Side Team City and they have privately already given up on the Sox? The Sox leaving Chicago would be another dark cloud on the City in the eyes of the Nation that already sees National publicity and bad news about Chicago with crime and so many people moving out and high taxes already.

no one in government here has any interest in giving a billionaire sports team owner money to build a new stadium .

it’s political suicide and it should be

Sox just need a new owner. Look how Steve Cohen fixed the Mets. Mark Walters fixed the Dodgers. John Middleton fixed the Phillies.

You just need to hire competent baseball people (hint go raid Tampa Bay, Milwaukee, Atlanta or LA) and give them $240M payroll and you will be in league championship series in couple years. Look at payroll of 3 of 4 teams still in Playoffs

#1 Mets $317M - LCS
#2 Yankees $309M - LCS

#3 Houston $255M (eliminated wild card). 2023 LCS
#4 Philadelphia $247M (eliminated DS), 2023 LCS
#5 Dodgers $241M - LCS
#6 Braves $236M - eliminated wild card, 2023 DS

#18/30 $133M White Sox

A quick search tells me Jerry owns 19% of the team. So, does he alone call the shots when it comes to selling the team? Is it just a rubber stamp approval by the other (minority) owners? And when it comes to moving the team doesn’t that typically require permission from the owners of other teams, commissioner, etc.? Of course it happens, but …

He has a lot of clout with the owners, so if he wants to move, they'll not block him.

Nah, I think the vast majority of taxpayers would be rightly upset if the city and state rewarded the current Sox ownership group with a brand new subsidized stadium. Jerry would be laughing all the way to the bank if any group of Illinois politicians is dumb enough to commit $1.1 billion to keep the team with the worst season in the history of the MLB in Chicago.

If there is any public financing involved in any way, it needs to be offset with an equal amount of equity in the team.

I don’t know anything but what are the odds that a group of Chicagoans just buy out Jerry’s 19%? A move to Nashville seems like it would be an incredibly expensive proposition for new ownership.
