Chicago Cubs 2024

Yan Gomes. The big problem of the 2024 Chicago Cubs. Has to go. You know who will make us better? Miles Mastrobuoni, a.k.a. The OPS Machine. Call him back up, pronto.

Yet another reason I don't follow the Cubs anymore (or major league baseball) : what's with these ridiculous uniforms now and then? Just plain silly. Goofy. Ugly. Subversive.

Think Banks, Santo, Williams, Hundley, Beckert, Fergie, Kessinger, Gabby Hartnett, Stan Hack, Billy Herman, Kiki Cuyler, Lon Warnecke (Arkansas Hummingbird), et all would have suited up in these clown outfits?

Sorry, me soon to be officially an old man. I go away now. But I'd rather watch Cubs Cubs Classics on Marquee (sp?). Even 23-22 loss to Phillies in 1979 or 1984 against Cards (Sandberg game). Or a tv black and white game from July, 1969. (Just before moon landing, hell with that, Cubs were in first place! -kidding).

I agree with you on some of these uniforms but my favorite Cub road uniforms were those baby blue pinstriped ones from the late 70s so my taste may be questionable.

Imanaga gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 3 innings. After a couple times through the order today in the lineup are Morel and Wisdom hitting .195, Amaya .188, and Swanson at .212. Happ is only at .236 but at least he's on a hot streak.

My major mistake was misspelling Lon's last name: It is Warneke. Gee whiz, everybody, I'm not talking to you from the grave. My baseball memories go way back to northside Chicago where my dad , when he was a Lane Tech student, first baseman, after Phil Cavaretta, lived at Damen and Addison with his mom and dad - my grandparents, obviously. Walking distance to Wrigley Field ! Did that a few times as a kid. Oh, baseball! (We loved the Bears, too.)

I know that Counsell doesn't have a lot to choose from but HOW IS MOREL HITTING CLEAN UP ON A MAJOR LEAGUE (?) TEAM !!! If Wisdom played third every day he could probably run into a ball once a week and hit 35 HR's (more than Morel will) and probably play third a little better. And Wisdom is not good !

You answered your own question. Jed built a bad roster. But Morel definitely has 35 HR power, regardless. Last I checked, he was projected to end up at 30. He's probably down from that now. A HR or two soon and he'll be right back up over a 30 HR pace.

Durocher was the answer in my day in the 60s. Not. And so it goes.

Understood that he might hit 30 but someone who is back and forth across the Mendoza line shouldn't be batting clean up.
I agree, but there are no correct answers with this lineup. I don't care about Morel's BA as much as his all or nothing results, but those are probably intertwined. He's on pace for 11 doubles for the entire season. Home run or single when he connects. That's be great if he were on pace for 40+. He has a ton of potential, but I'm worried he'll never quite get over the hump to greatness.

it’s as frustrating to be a Cub fan as it was in any year from 1969-2015

Rickets’ honeymoon from 2016 is long over . yea , they invested a ton of money into the facilities & the team , but while they are reaping the rewards on the real estate , the team stinks .

If you can’t figure out a way to win 90 games every year , sell the club to Mark Cuban and let him have a go at it

Rickets can move back to Omaha or move to Naples , Fl and fish off a bridge for the next 25 years .

It’s getting old
