Week 9 News & Games

This Indiana team is amazing. That coach, whoever he is, obviously mastered the portal. Does Indiana really have that much $$? Anyway, we can see how the college sports landscape is cracking. There are other good examples too. Army and Navy are both undefeated for the first time in forever.

Indiana is relatively high up on the NIL list, but I think, like us, they over-index that $ toward hoops. I think they are performing well above their NIL spend for football.

it was not so much $ he offered all these G5 guys, but he offered instant playing time in a B1G school to a lot of them.

he knows how to win games . not his first rodeo

What a strange year for Indiana to be this good. 4 wins against nobody ranked, a combined 5-12 in conference, with no teams on the schedule above .500 except a lone game with OSU. Of their remaining decent teams (uMich and Washington), they have both at home. You'd have to look at that schedule and think 8-1 is most likely.
It looks like Notre Dameā€™s regular schedule. IU's schedule is almost as soft as Notre Dameā€™s. OK, maybe a slight exaggeration, but I took a look at NDā€™s schedule, and it is pretty soft. Their only big win was against Texas A&M, but Louisville is no longer ranked and is not even getting votes. Upcoming games include ranked Navy (24) and Army (23), both of whom also have pretty weak schedules, weaker than NDā€™s, I would guess (I donā€™t want to analyze every team on their schedule). They also play FSU which at the time it was scheduled was considered a pretty good game but now? Luck of the Irish continues. I donā€™t understand how and why ND keeps getting away with their year-in and year-out weak schedule (with some exceptions).

I mean...holy smokes.

Is MSU-Iowa not there because it didn't crack 2M?

Remember for scale, OSU-Oregon as a network night game with pretty limited competition did 9.6M.

(And just to be clear, 3.0M is a bad number for the 2:30 CBS game between two ranked teams relative to what the SEC is doing, but a GREAT number relative to the pittance Illinois football has mostly played to in recent years. Our program's visibility is way way up. Our third 3M+ audience of the year, surely a fourth coming on Saturday)

I was hoping for 4M+, but as you said, compared to our past viewership, we're making huge strides.

it takes a few years of playing decent ball to get interest from people in the northeast and west coasts

we wonā€™t ever draw big across SEC land
