Week 4 News & Games

A lot of the Purdue fans are in the older crowd and Walters definitely comes off as cocky and has said some things that he has not backed up yet. He said they had the Notre Dame game circled all year and then lays an egg. He said that he didn't have anything to learn about his team before the opener last year - then gets beat by Fresno State.
Walters was a stretch hire @ Purdue. No experience as a head coach. 5 years as DC - 3 @ Missouri and 2 @ Illinois. I think they got tired of hiring coaches from Kentucky.

His predecessor Jeff Brohm (left for Louisville) was 30-10 in 3 seasons at W Kentucky. Darrell Hanzen (fired) was 16-10 @ Kent State, Danny Hope (fired) 35-22 at Eastern Kentucky.

Pretty clear that Purdue underestimated how much work Bret put in to molding this program and the plans he put in place. Pretty sure Walters' contract is pretty cheap though. I just don't think he was quite ready.

Going to be a fun day with no worries.

I think Michigan gets further exposed. If that happens, we'll jump them for sure. You have to figure we jump NIU regardless of what we do. Other teams in the range above us are likely favored. You have to figure some voters who left us off ballots can't ignore us anymore.

So I'm thinking we'll be top 20 when the dust settles.

I want Muck Fichigan to win, until they play us..... Best case scenario!

Per Neil Young, Kent State is in Ohio. Also,.it was Darrell Hazell. I completely agree about the Walters hire, though.

Given that he introduced himself on Beavers board in a respectful manor, I’d guess he’s not a “militant” fan. So I think his reply (see below) was fairly measured. But he’s a big enough fan to make the trip to Corvallis this weekend.

“I would say that they are - but mostly holding judgment until after this game. You know, you'll always get those guys hammering to fire the coach and stuff but I think most rational fans understand that Purdue isn't going to be a program that wins 7-8 games on a yearly basis in the Big Ten. Purdue doesn't have the 'dudes' to run the defense that Walters did at Illinois and I think that is where a lot of the pause starts. Purdue is just getting bullied on the defensive side of the ball.

Tl;dr - The Illini Defense is full of DUDES!

This is basically the best thing you can hear your opponent say when they don't know they're talking to Illini fans. Thanks for sharing.

Ohio State gives up their first TD to Marshal. LUL and imagine the refs seemed to have tried to give a clear fumble out of bounds to Ohio State instead of to Marshal as it should of been since no one gained control of the ball before it went out of bounds. lol

A little cockiness/confidence are great. That’s just a clueless statement. Geez.

The slate of games in the 11 am slot is not exactly compelling.
Agreed. I turned away from Ohio State-Marshall (7-7 at the time) to Clemson-NC State (28-0), there really aren't any compelling games right now.

Switch over to ACCN. James Madison is currently up 32-21 on UNC. Some significant plays include a TD on a blocked punt, a successful 2-pt conversion, and they even recovered an onside kick.
