Ty Rodgers to take redshirt year

I appreciate Ty but let's dont act as if he has lived up to expectations. Ty is not a lock down defender or an uber skilled player like a Rodman type in all areas besides shooting. I trust our coaches to evaluate the talent. I am not so easily convinced Ty is better than Tre White at any aspect until I see more on the court at Illinois. I know LaTulip says they are very similar in many areas except shooting the ball where Tre is better. I tend to agree with Latulip. Ty struggled on defense at times too. Ty was a very good offensive rebounder but I have not seen enough yet to say Tre or others can't be to and also provide a threat to score and spread the floor which Ty unfortunately just can't do.
I haven't seen anything from Tre White yet that Ty Rodgers couldn't do. Maybe he will flash in games but he's likely the 6th or 7th option in terms of scoring. Will Riley might be coming for his spot if he learns how to defend. At this point, you got KJ, Riley, Ivisic, Boswell, DGL, maybe Humrichous who are all going to be getting the ball. So, is it really worth alienating Ty Rodgers for a guy who won't even be a top 5 option on his own team?

510 I don't think you are convincing anyone. I get you like TR, I do too, we all like TR. But he is the one in practice going up against his teammates every single day, and he made this decision based on what he knows, and what the staff is telling him they see. I get the sense from your multitude of posts on Ty Rogers decision that you think this was not his decision to make. You are wrong, it was. Had he told the staff he still wanted to play, use the year of eligibility, they would let him. They likely may have recommended otherwise, because I think this staff is brutally honest with all of the players, but still would have said sitting out was his best long term option.
