I just bought some of the books 1-4. Is this an ongoing series of books or are the shows all based on these four and will possibly end when the storyline is completed? Has anyone read the books who can comment on whether the TV series follows them closely or loosely? Thanks for the input! I've read the entire Wheel of Times series and would love to see a series based on them.

I've read the books. The series follows quite closely though there are some divergences. Some of them subtle but significant. They've painted a lot more homosexuality into the series than was in the books and the characters are MUCH older in the series than in the books. I think that Dany is 14 or so in the books. I read they had to do that to allow for the sex. Martin claimed that women married in the 13-15 year old range in the Dark Ages.

He writes extremely slowly with many years between book releases. The series is rapidly catching up to the books. I am not sure what is going to happen when they draw even. Martin better start writing faster.

The best part of the books for me is that each chapter is written from the perspective of one of the characters. Sometimes he lets you see the same event from different perspectives. It's amazing how differently the same set of facts can be presented. Also, being inside a character's head who gets killed is at first quite shocking. Of course Martin kills so many characters off that it is hard to keep that feeling of loss going as the books go by.

If you haven't watched game of thrones, I STRONGLY recommend it. I'm not into medieval stuff like that but once we started watching it I went through the first three seasons in three weeks.

Season 4 just ended, and I've already watched season 1 again, there's so any different storylies going on.

I haven't read the books.

Yep. And it only gets crazier. Amazing show.

What is everyone's opinion on the GOAT and GOAT episode in TV history?

I'm going with season 4 of BB. Walt, Jesse, Gus, and Mike worked so damn well with each other.

Then season 4 finale of BB is easily the GOAT episode.

I would go The Rains of Castamere

Also- going back a few years to season 3 finale of LOST.

Even further - the masturbation episode of Seinfeld.

If you aren't watching The Leftovers, I highly recommend it. The first two episodes has a lot of moving parts, but entertaining none the less. The 3rd episode went a completely different way, by following only 1 character, but there were times my blood pressure was going wondering what was going to happen.

Should you watch, don't get hung up on the rapture part and trying to figure that out, it is a character show.

I don't get HBO so I won't see it until it hits the library on dvd. The concept is from a very good novel by Tom Perrotta (The Leftovers.) The novel didn't dwell on the rapture but rather those who didn't depart. Sounds like the show is sticking to the book.

+1000000... Dont ask me what its about because I literally have no clue but the first 3 episodes were unbelievable. I was a huge fan of Friday Night Lights, and Peter Berg has done a phenomenal job directing. Also, was a fan of Lost and the writer's seem to have outdone themselves on this one.

Every single episode I ask my self "wtf is going on?" but in the best way possible. Such an intriguing show.

Peter Berg is a boss. Big time Lost fan too. Going to have to give this one a try.

Wasn't sure where else on here to put this so I'll put it in this thread...

Went to my local theater this afternoon and watched the stream of the final live Monty Python performance. The show was hilarious and an absolute joy for those of us that are fans of their comedy. If you get a chance, you can see one of the re-airings later this week in theaters(I believe they're being shown Wednesday and Thursday if I'm not mistaken) or buy the DVD when it comes out later this year. I highly recommend seeing it if you haven't had a chance to see it as of yet.

Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about that. Doubt that it will be shown anywhere near where I'm currently at but I'll find a way to view it somehow.

I think Berg has given himself a cameo in each episode so far. He was the dead body in one of the episodes.

I'm not sold on the show yet. I'm fine with shows that leave you with lots of questions, in fact I like them. But when you're left not even knowing what questions to ask, or without any insight into the meta-plot, it starts to get frustrating.

The league on fxx is pretty good. Not as dark as it's always sunny but has a rude humor to it. The first four seasons are free on Netflix and Amazon prime. Worth a watch.

Better than pretty good. Ruxin, Shiva, Taco, Rafi...too funny.

I've watched the first 4 episodes and I couldn't even describe the point of this show. It's horribly depressing. I'll give it another week or two but they better come out with a reason for us to care about these people if they want to keep the audience.

Anybody watching The Strain? I think it's been okay so far though it has gotten some bad reviews. I like the main character - he was also good in House of Cards.

I have also been watching the Sopranos. I made it through the first two seasons but might stop. Hasn't been as good as I expected.

That was one of the most grueling scences I've ever watched on TV - The Leftovers.

I love the league, but Rafi is more than overboard. When he was first introduce to the show I didn't think he'd be a recurring role with how is character was displayed. He's been weird still, but not like at the beginning. He has to be a friend of taco in real life, or do the other guys on the show have twisted personalities even though tacos is a care free type he still is off sometimes even if it can be funny.

The long con is a great idea to do to friends.

Anyone watching Tyrant on FX? I like it so far because I feel like this is how it is in most parts of the Middle East.

I heard there are two new 30 min comedies on FX that are pretty good called married and you're the worst. My buddy said you're the worse is his life, and I can't wait to see what he is talking about.

There are a few more FX shows I want to check out: Saint George, Ali G, anger Management, the Americans, Fargo, Partners(hasn't debuted Martin/Kelsey Grammer), and the Bridge. If anyone has an opinion good or bad for any of these shows let me know.

The Americans and The Bridge are very good shows.

I'm a history buff, and have a strong interest in espionage, so I'm not unbiased. But The Americans first season was good and the second season was VVG.

The Bridge leads are excellent, particularly Bechir. Kruger's character's quirkiness becomes tiring, but she ain't normal. The supporting actors are excellent. The stories are interesting, as life on the border is an alien world to me.

Haven't seen Fargo yet, but it's highly regarded. Watched the pilot of Married. Didn't floor me, but was pretty good. Really like the female lead (Judy Greer?). Will watch again. That's all I got.

I finally got caught up through season 5 of Justified. Season 5 not as satisfying as season 4, but the setup for season 6 looks like they might knock it out of the part.

Now I have to decide which other series I want to jump in to. Looking between The Bridge, The Wire, and The Americans. I've also got a shiny Blu-ray set of Deadwood that needs to be watched.
