Purdue 77, Illinois 71 Postgame

We played the best defense that we've played this year, but Purdue's was better.

I'm not upset with this one. PU is a legit FF team, and will be shocked if they get there.

Let's take it out on ioway and make em squawk.

50/50 balls resulted in second chance points for them without fail in the 2H.

Our defense is predicated on stopping the 3, so anytime a team goes 8/10 in a half we’re going to have a rough time.

Offensively we played wayyyy too timid in the 2H. Seemingly no one outside of Domask seemed to want to have the ball in their hands.

We’ll see these guys again in the B1G tourney ship. Won’t mean much at that point, but let’s beat em them.
Honestly, there were no 50/50 balls, only 90/10 balls tonight. It seemed like every friggin bounce went their way after it had glanced off at least 2 of our players

Ya… “tip your cap” and everything, but that’s been the season against these types of opponents. Marquette, Tennessee, Purdue x2, Michigan St., Northwestern. We’ll go into the Big Ten Tournament with our best win over a team that’s trending to a 7 seed. I still think we’re a very good basketball team, but we haven’t found a way to get any of these big time opportunities to go our way (hold for Saturday’s win at the Kohl Center), and I have an unfortunate feeling that could mean our ceiling ends up being capped.

We got way more close fouls called in our favor than they did in the second half. The refs were more of a factor in our favor than in PU's IMO. We were just outplayed by a better team.

I agree they are better than us, but not so much with the horses. They have a generational player in Eddy. If Kofi would have stayed another year or two we would have had a player to play against him. it will take a team that out schemes Purdue if they are hitting 3’s with Eddy on the floor?

Especially when Underwood talks all the time about not letting the others guys beat us and then goes and doubles and gives them open 3's.
I am pleased to see how much more tough and physical we were on defense. That's personally the only silver lining to the game for me. Sitting TSJ for almost the entire first half really sucked all of his energy away. That's why I hate that approach.

Kick out passes to him do need to be better. A lot of the corner passes he was just fighting to corral, no way he could even go up off most of them.

There are a couple that I agree on the pass needs to be better ...

I need to rewatch the film tonight but I can think of a couple off of the top of my head when he just needs to pull the freaking trigger ... And it's not just tonight either ... He's been a little timid lately ...

And like Brad tells him all the time ... Just pull the trigger son ... Do what you do ... I am only gonna take you out if you don't pull it ...

God I hate seeing Shannon standing 16 feet from the basket while two of our guys knock a rebound out of each others hands. Jones took a TERRIBLE shot on that last possession and Shannon was doing a traveling call with his hands instead of going for the ball. He needs to be in rebound mode under 5 mins. Not leak out mode.

Couple of notes for me:

1. Whoever decided to change the defense in the start of the 2nd half (ultimately falls on Brad) ... What are you thinking ? Why quit something that was working?

2. Ty needs to play more ... Goode is an absolute warrior ... I wanted Ty over him tonight ...

3. Hansberry goes out there and just fouls ... That should have been Dainja ... We can debate all night whether they were fouls or not but at the end of the day ... Hansberry should not have been in the game ... And that's nothing against the kid ... I like him ... But Dainja was the guy matchup wise tonight ...
Yes, this all day. The line-up choices are continuously absurd and not improving in this regard is unquestionably criminal.

We beat the meth out of them in the first half.

Proud of our defense. Let up in the second half. Felt like we abandoned what was working a little bit. But overall, the best we looked.

Three point shooting was the difference.

Crowd was amazing.

Biggest highlight was Meyers Leonard chugging about 68 ounces of beer in 30 seconds.

Why’s every one saying our defense changed in the second half? We doubled Edey on 2 or 3 possessions at most and then went back to single coverage.

The dagger 3s from Purdue from lucky rebounds at the end was the big difference
It’s more about how it flipped momentum around. They hit a couple threes off of us doubling him and then never cooled off.
